60-year-olds go to Shapotou Scenic Area for free. Shapotou National Nature Reserve in Ningxia, National Desert Ecological Nature Reserve, Global Top 500 Environmental Protection Unit, Top 20 National Fitness Scenery, and Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress. Shapotou is located at the southeast edge of Tengger Desert in the west of zhongwei, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It starts from Erdaogou South Forest Protection Room in the east, reaches Toudaodun in the west, connects Tengger Desert in the north and the Yellow River in the south. It is about 38 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, with an altitude of 1300 ~ 1500 meters and a total area of 4599.3. The terrain of the reserve is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and it inclines from northwest to southeast. Sand dunes are vertical and horizontal, undulating, covered with red sandstone and high floodplain terraces and alluvial-diluvial plains in the second or tertiary period. The desert in the reserve was formed by the Tengger Desert moving forward, and the thickness of sand layer is generally 20 ~ 30m, with the maximum thickness of 50m. Most of them are ridge dunes, crescent dunes chain, crescent dunes and lattice crescent dunes, which constitute a typical aeolian landform.
