Basic parameter characteristics
▲ Main features of Nikon D600
Nikon D600 has a Quan Huafu sensor with 24.26 million pixels, a 39-point focusing system and an EXPEED 3 image processor. The shutter life is 6.5438+0.5 million times, and the continuous shooting is 5.5 frames per second, which is obviously one level lower than that of D800, and the width is 654.38+0.465+0? 1 13 (dragon)? The weight of 82 mm and 760g makes it the smallest and lightest full-frame camera in Nikon's history. On the whole, it is smaller than D800 and closer to D7000. Some functions such as the focusing system simply copied the D7000. So the basic performance of D600 can only be said to be lackluster in terms of parameters. However, specific performance such as image quality control cannot be determined only by parameters. Let us believe that we can understand all aspects of D600 through specific evaluation.
Appearance fusion D7000 and D800
When I first saw the D600, many friends thought it was a full version of the D7000. In terms of overall appearance, the D600 really looks very close to the D7000.
▲ Front view of Nikon D600
From the front, the whole body of Nikon D600 follows the shape of Nikon APS-C D7000, but more elements of D800 are incorporated into the details. Gold? FX? It is a special professional symbol of Nikon full-frame machine. Besides, Nikon on the handle? Little red underwear? Became? Little red belt? Yes
▲ Back view of Nikon D600
Nikon's full-frame machine always uses a circular eyepiece viewfinder (such as D700\D800). At this point, the window design of D600 and D7000 APS-C SLR cameras is the same, which made many Nikon Quan Huafu players unhappy in the past. However, the viewfinder, like the D800, is 100% with a magnification of 0.7. What is this? Fusion? D7000 and D800. The layout of the back buttons is also very close to that of the D7000. In addition, the D600 adopts a newly upgraded 3.2-inch TFT HD LCD screen with a resolution of 920,000, which is the same as that of the D800. The handle is shorter than the full-size D800, but the design of the rubber part is more convex and the thumb is more comfortable to hold.
▲ Top view of Nikon D600
Except for the newly added video recording key, the top of the D600 looks like the D7000. The top and back of D600 are made of magnesium alloy, and the front of fuselage is made of engineering plastic. So Nikon's weight is the lightest in the whole frame, but it will inevitably be spit out? Is the fuselage plastic too strong? Yes If you have used D800, you will find that the surface coating and even the adhesive of D600 are much worse than D800. I think these details are the best embodiment of the difference of nearly 8 thousand yuan between the two.
▲ Mode dial
At first glance, the model dial of D600 is exactly the same as that of D7000, but if you look closely, you will find that it has changed. The dial of D600 is designed with a fixed button. When you need to change the shooting mode, you need to press and hold the button to turn the turntable, which can avoid the mode change caused by touching the turntable unintentionally.
▲ Bottom view of Nikon D600
Nikon D600 has a metal tripod hole at the bottom, and the product model and code are also at the bottom of the camera. When buying, you need to look here to see the three-code combination (three-code combination: the package code, warranty certificate code and body code must be consistent to get the warranty). It is worth noting that although the bottom of Nikon D600 has a texture, it does not use rubber like D800, which obviously has less friction in actual use.
▲ Left/right view of Nikon D600
▲ Nikon D600 data interface
The fuselage interface of Nikon D600 is located on the side of the fuselage. In addition to the most commonly used USB, headphones and 3.5 microphone interfaces, there is also an HDMI high-definition signal interface. In addition, J and GPS interface are added. The sealing performance under the side interface protection cover is very good, and the waterproof coating makes D600 have good waterproof and splash-proof performance.
▲ Nikon D600 dual SD card slot
D600 adopts double SD card slot design. Obviously, a single SD card can't meet the shooting needs of more than 20 million pixel cameras. Frequent card replacement will not only lead to the loss of SD card, but also reduce the fun of shooting. The dual-card slot design is obviously a good and convenient solution. D800 adopts SD card and CF card dual slot design, D4 adopts XQD card and CF card dual slot design. From this point we can also see the level of product positioning.
▲ Nikon D600 battery compartment
▲ Nikon D600 battery
Nikon D600 adopts Nikon's new generation EL 15 battery, which is the same as D800 battery. 1900mA brings a significant improvement in endurance, and 500~600 photos can be taken at full charge, which is enough to meet the shooting needs of one day. However, for such a full-frame machine, which is aimed at advanced enthusiasts and professional photographers, the spare battery is still a guarantee of battery life.
Appearance evaluation summary: So, who is the D600 like? Is it D7000 or D800? The answer to this question, as far as I am concerned, is? There are no two identical leaves and no two completely different leaves in the world? This metaphysical sophistry is the most appropriate way to answer this question. If we have to evaluate the appearance of D600, it is more based on D7000 skeleton which combines some elements of D800. The hardware configuration is higher than D7000 and lower than D800, which obviously conforms to the official positioning.

Nikon D600 resolution test: Raw to JPG performed well.
It can be said that D600 is not the real successor of D700. Everyone agrees that D600 is the FX version of D7000, but as the younger brother of D800, what about D600? Cheap full size? Let many people stop and wait and see how big the gap between D600 and D800 is. Before the formal evaluation, I hope everyone will think about a question: how high pixels do you need?
Next, we will make a formal evaluation of D600 with this question. In the test, we used Nikon D600 equipped with AF-S 50mm F 1.4G lens, and took samples with ISO 12233 resolution ratio (4000 lines) under various apertures, and tested them with Imatest software, and finally got the best resolution value. The following is the best resolution comparison between Nikon D600 and D800 (the test lens and environment are exactly the same):
▲ Comparison of optimal resolution histograms between Nikon D600 and D800.
When counting the scores of imatest in D600 JPG, the author was a little disappointed to see that its optimal resolution of 24.26 million pixels was only 3000 lines. Because this result is similar to 5D2, and 5D3 is similar to 5D2 in resolution, this result is unexpected and reasonable. After all, there is little difference between the pixels of D600 and 5D3.
However, after the conversion of Raw to JPG, the best resolution of Imastest has soared by about 1.500 lines, and the resolution of 4500 lines has not been disappointing. The test results are basically D800 raw > D800 JPG straight out = D600 Raw > D600 JPG straight out. Among the models tested by the author, many models will be optimized because of image algorithm or not for Imatest. Appetite? Therefore, there is a certain error in the actual running score. In order to verify the accuracy of the D600 running score, we might as well look at the visual value of the proof under the aperture with the best resolution.
▲ JPG with the best resolution for direct visual inspection.
It can be seen that the horizontal resolution of D600 is about 3 100 lines and the vertical resolution is about 3000 lines, which is consistent with the score of Imatest software.
▲ Visual inspection of the best resolution from Raw to JPG
However, when converting from Raw to JPG, the explosion performance of D600 and D800 is the same, and the horizontal resolution has exceeded 4000 lines, while the vertical resolution is around 3400 lines, which is also consistent with the test results. However, there is pseudo color on the left and right horizontal sides of the 3800 line, which has a certain influence on the naked eye, and this phenomenon is particularly obvious in the contrast between the D600 and D800 resolution real shots.
Measurement of Definition of Nikon D600
Through the resolution test, we can see that the resolution of D600 in Raw format far exceeds its own JPG direct output, and basically reaches the level of D800 JPG direct output. So is this also true in real shooting? Let's take a look at the effect of two clear lenses.
In the definition shooting test, we used Nikon D600 and D800 to shoot the above picture in the standard evaluation environment. The lens used is Nikon AF-S 50mm F 1.4G, the shooting parameter is F8 aperture under A file, and the sensitivity is set to ISO 50. For the convenience of comparison, we 100% cut off three different parts of the samples taken by the two people (the red box area above) for observation.
▲D600 sharpness seems to be better? !
Looking at the sharpness effect, we might as well conduct a comprehensive investigation from the sharpness and details of the picture. From 100% slice, the sharpness is D600RAW >: D800RAW > D800 JPG straight out > D600 JPG straight out, but there is no doubt that D800 is better in details as a whole. Admittedly, the definition of D600 Raw format is better than that of JPG, which is consistent with the test results, but there is obvious pseudo color in the picture, while D800 with higher pixels per inch only shows slight performance in JPG.
I was surprised to see that D800 was not as sharp as D600, but the real result was not the case. There is no doubt that D800 has more picture details than D600, because it has120000 pixels, but D800 is not as sharp as D600 Raw to JPG. Why? In fact, if you look closely, the contrast of D800 is not as obvious as that of D600, so it looks not as sharp as that of D600.
▲ Object texture restoration
For texture performance, D600 is better than D800, and the metallic texture and luster are more realistic, which may be related to the fact that D600 pixels are lower than D800. In addition to the influence of the lens, that sentence D800 has more details.
▲ Image edge sharpness and detail contrast
But look at the image edges D600 and D800. Because the same lens is used, we can see that the overall performance of D800 is better than that of D600, and the sharpness is: D800 Raw > D800 JPG straight out > D600 Raw & gtD600 highway.
Summary of resolution and definition test: In the resolution and definition test, we saw the advantages and disadvantages of 600 and D800, but in a word, the performance of D600 is absolutely enough for photographers, and D800 is definitely better than D600 in resolution and definition, but only if you need to equip D800 with high-resolution lenses, which are often more expensive, so this is what I want you to think before evaluating? Do you need high pixels? The reason is that buying an ordinary D800 is not only a waste of fuselage but also a waste of budget.

D600 sensitivity test: ISO 1600 is available.
As early as before the D600 was officially sent to China for testing, there were rumors that D600 was no different from D800 in high-sensitivity performance. Although many famous foreign websites have evaluated it, it is only hearsay, and both D600 and D800 are my favorite machines, so the final purchase decision can only be made after personal testing.
▲ Sensitivity test environment
The above scenario is the standard sensitivity test environment of IT 168 evaluation room. We use D600 equipped with AF-S 50mm F 1.4G lens to shoot the scene at the same position and with the same parameters, and slice it at the same position with the sensitivity of 100% (as shown in the figure). Next, let's see how D600 shows high sensitivity when JPG is output in a straight line.
▲ Nikon D600 JPG compares the sensitivity slices of each gear.
From the overall sharpness, the sharpness of D600 Raw to JPG is better than that of JPG, and the overall noise of D600JPG is better than that of Raw to JPG, which is close to ISO value. As far as D600 is concerned, I personally think ISO 1600 is OK, but the sharpness is worse than that of the same grade Raw. Therefore, I suggest you save it as a file in Raw+JPG format when using higher sensitivity, and see who has more choices when reducing noise or sharpening later.
The noise reduction effect over ISO800 is obvious.
If you find it troublesome to use software to reduce noise later, you may wish to look at the effect of D600 after turning on noise reduction, and then turn on noise reduction settings according to your own usage habits. The noise reduction settings of D600 are off, low, standard and high, and the standard noise reduction is selected in this comparison.
▲ Nikon D600 noise reduction test
It can be seen that there is no difference in detail, noise and sharpness between ISO50-400. When ISO800 and above, the noise reduction effect of D600 is remarkable, and the overall feeling is improved by half ISO. ф o16000 and ISO3200 have the best noise reduction effect-noise is obviously reduced, and the loss of detail and sharpness is not large. The whole painting is available.
High sensitivity contrast test of Nikon D600, Canon 5D3 and Nikon D800.
After watching the D600' s own high-sensitivity performance and noise reduction test, now let's answer the high-sensitivity question that everyone is most concerned about: What is the difference between the high-sensitivity of D600 and D800? How does D600 compare with 5D3? The test environment and shooting parameters are consistent with the definition test, in which D600 and D800 are equipped with AF-S 50mm F 1.4G lens, and Canon 5D3 is equipped with EF 50mm F 1.4 USM lens.
▲JPG goes straight out of Gao Fancha
It can be seen that the sharpness details of D600 and 5D3 images are similar under low sensitivity, which also confirms the author's conclusion that they are similar in D600JPG direct resolution test.
However, in the high sensitivity range commonly used by ISO800-3200, with the increase of sensitivity value, the D800 with the largest pixel per inch first appears noise. D800 has obvious noise in ISO800. Basically, D800 stops at ISO 1600 in front of high image quality. For D600 and 5D3, the high sensitivity of 5D3 changes in two stages. ISO400- 1600 has no obvious sharpness decrease and noise increase, but it is aggravated at ISO3200 and 6400. The detail loss and noise of D600 increase evenly with the increase of ISO value.
But overall, JPG comes out directly, 5D3 is superior to D600 in high sensitivity, and D600 is superior to D800 as a whole. That is, JPG direct sensitivity performance: 5D3 > D600 & gtD800.
▲ High texture contrast between ▲Raw and JPG
When Raw is converted to JPG, it can be clearly seen that the overall picture definition of D600 has been obviously improved. In ISO50-400, d600 >: 5d3 >; The D800 is still the best performance of 5D3 at higher sensitivity, while the D600 and D800 are still better than the latter at the full scale with noise reduction turned off.
Summary of high-sensitivity imaging test: Seeing this, the author's conclusion is that D600 JPG can be directly exported to ISO 1600, and the noise reduction effect is better when the Raw format is turned on. Among the three Quan Huafu SLR models, 5D3 is still the best one, and D600 is probably better than D800 in Quan Huafu.

D600 color performance test: automatic white balance color reproduction is accurate.
Clarity and high-sensitivity imaging are important manifestations of image quality, and the color performance of Nikon D600 is also worthy of attention. One is to see whether the white balance of Nikon D600 can accurately restore the original color temperature of the object, and the other is to see what the overall color tendency of Nikon D600 is more suitable for.
▲ Color test environment
In order to understand the imaging style of Nikon D600, in the color test, we equipped D600 with AF-S 50mm F 1.4G lens, set automatic white balance and manual white balance to shoot standard color cards respectively (the red box in the above picture is the color test range), and obtained the final data through imatest software:
▲ Nikon D600 manual white balance color tendency
This test chart reflects the difference between the actual imaging color value and the ideal value of Nikon D600. The part surrounded by gray lines in the figure is the color gamut range of Kang 600. The square color block in the test chart is the ideal color value, and the circular color block is the actual shooting value.
Among them, manual white balance exceeds sRGB color gamut by 28.6%, and Nikon D600 is bright in color, which is suitable for direct output. At the same time, D600 is sensitive to blue-green, which is suitable for taking photos with landscape themes.
▲ Nikon D600 automatic white balance color tendency
But for D600, its automatic white balance is more accurate than manual white balance in restoring color temperature, and I found that many consumer-grade SLR cameras have such performance this year. Perhaps this little detail embodies the characteristics of D600 as a consumer-grade Quan Huafu SLR ~ but the automatic white balance is accurate and harmless, at least it is convenient to use.
Summary of D600 image quality evaluation: In fact, in the real image quality evaluation, D600 and D800 have their own advantages in different places, but when it comes to purchasing, we still have to consider the overall situation: Do we really need such high pixels?
The high pixel of D800 has incomparable advantages in detail, format and output printing, but for high image quality, we not only need to invest in better lenses, but also upgrade the surrounding digital devices. The D600 image quality will be insufficient, and the JPG straightness will be mediocre, but it is the same as the mainstream Quan Huafu SLR. Moreover, the quality of Raw format can make people enjoy the amazing D800, and the high sense and continuous shooting are better than D800, so D600 is more balanced in comprehensive performance.

The control is more like D7000, and the menu inherits D800.
The appearance and key layout of D600 are more the combination of D7000 and D800, so there is not much difference in control and menu setting between D7000 and D800. Anyone familiar with these two machines can easily get started with the D600. According to Bian Xiao's experience, the control is closer to D7000, and the menu is similar to D800.
▲D600 aperture adjustment
The design of double dial wheel makes the adjustment of exposure compensation of aperture shutter more efficient and handy. If you need to adjust the aperture during shooting, just move the index finger on the front wheel.
▲ Press and hold the ISO key to set ISO.
Press and hold the ISO key to switch the rear wheel to quickly adjust the sensitivity, and at the same time switch the front wheel to set the automatic/manual ISO. Although such adjustment can also be achieved through menu setting, it is undoubtedly much faster and more efficient through key combination.
▲D600 exposure compensation setting
In the M range, the rear wheel of the D600 is used to adjust the shutter, while in the A range, you can adjust the shutter by opening? Simple exposure? You can also directly dial the rear wheel to quickly adjust the exposure compensation. In addition, long press the exposure compensation key and toggle the rear wheel, which can quickly adjust the exposure compensation, depending on personal usage habits.
▲D600 white balance setting
In addition to setting in the menu, you can also press and hold the button marked? WB? Then dial the front and rear wheels. Is the rear wheel used for selection? Daylight, incandescent lamp? Equal mode, the front wheel can fine-tune the gain, fast and efficient.
▲D600 shooting mode setting
The mode wheel of D600 is very close to that of D7000 (a fixed button for mode adjustment is added), and the adjustment method is the same. Continuous shooting, timed shooting and other shooting modes need to hold down the fixed key and then dial the lower part of the wheel.
▲D600 menu
Compared with Nikon machines such as D800, the menu of D600 has not changed much. The first-level menu has not changed, and the second-level menu has been supplemented and upgraded, adding scene modes. Nikon old users are easy to get started.
▲D600 model effect
Considering that most full-length players have high photography skills, most full-frame machines are very professional in positioning, and they do not have very rich internal scene settings. However, the D600 is different. The new model effect can be similar to the effect of shifting axis through the operation in the machine, which greatly increases the playability of the machine.
When shooting video, the aperture cannot be adjusted.
D700 has long been criticized by many people for not having video function. Since then, Nikon has strengthened the video shooting function of the later machines. The D600 supports lossless HDMI output, and can shoot in multiple formats, such as 1920x 1080: 30p (line by line), 25p and 24p. But D600 can't directly control the depth of field by adjusting the aperture in video mode. In addition, although headphones and stereo microphones can be connected externally, there is only one mono microphone in the fuselage.

Editor's point of view: price is the key to the balanced selection of pixels.
On the whole, D600 is a model with comprehensive performance in all aspects, and more than 20 million pixels are enough for normal use. Compared with other aspects of performance, I believe that the price is the core issue that everyone will pay attention to, from the never-going-to-market, all-round distribution and even later. According to the price trend of D700, it is not a problem that the price of D600 drops to 12000 within half a year, and then it can be killed directly.
▲ Nikon D600
If you have to choose one of the 5D2\D700\D600 SLR models with relatively close prices, the D600 is the most cost-effective. On the whole, there are only 5D2 and D700 full-width machines close to the price of D600. The performance of D600 is definitely better than that of 5D2. From the perspective of technological progress, many models with a difference of several years are not at the same level in processing speed. Especially, 5D2' s criticized focusing system can't be compared with D600' s 39-point focusing. Therefore, the focusing system of D600 will be a big reason for not choosing 5D2. Although the D700 has a good focus and continuous shooting, its low pixels and lack of video function are always fatal. In this way, D600 has become the most cost-effective choice under comprehensive balance.

It is not difficult to speculate that Nikon 24-85 F3.5-4.5, Nikon 28 1.8G, Nikon 50 1.8G and Nikon 85 1.8G have been launched from these cost-effective Quan Huafu lenses and the official appearance of D600. Popularizing Quan Huafu SLR is Nikon's overall strategy. There is no doubt that Nikon made a concession on the Quan Huafu machine. This makes the full-frame camera face consumers again with a cheap and high-performance attitude. The appearance of D600 with these inexpensive lenses is not only the supplement and perfection of Nikon's full-width product chain, but also the symbol of low-cost civilian full-width high-quality products. In order to avoid being eliminated by the market, other manufacturers will inevitably follow up similar cost-effective products. It is conceivable that from then on, the full-width SLR and lens are no longer? Is it expensive? Low prices are no longer a dream. From this perspective, the advent of D600 is undoubtedly a milestone.

Purchase suggestion:
When it was first listed in mid-September, the licensed price of D600 with tickets was as high as 16000 yuan. However, it soon fell below 14000 yuan after the National Day. According to the market rules, the price of products just listed will swell for a period of time, and with the passage of time, the price will also decrease. If you are in a hurry, you might as well act quickly. If you are not in a hurry, you might as well wait for three to five months until the price stabilizes. Even if the price is around 14000, D600 can be quite competitive in the same grade products. Personally, if it falls below 12000, it can be called a good deal.
