The variability of atmospheric circulation leads to the late start of Meiyu period and the long and short duration of Meiyu every year. In some years, Meiyu front is particularly active, with frequent rainstorms, causing floods. In some years, the meiyu front is not obvious, and there are "empty plums", which leads to dry weather.
