[pure dry goods] how to make Lapbook page-turning books? Preliminary practical guide
My child's third birthday is coming. After scratching my head for three days, I finally decided not to challenge the cake that failed again and again, and to make a Lapbook whale book that she likes and can keep ~

Preparation materials:

1. Colored cardboard (200g, quarto, multicolor)-The main body of the book (quarto cardboard is recommended to be above 230g, and the 200g I chose is slightly thinner).

2. Colored cardboard (160g, A4, multi-color)-the contents of the book (double-layered pages are required for turning pages or holding hands, or paper of more than 200g is selected).

3. Scissors, glue, double-sided adhesive tape, paper cutter, steel ruler, two-legged nail, double-sided adhesive tape and pens needed.

Step 1: Develop a content outline.

In the early stage of making this lapbook, I spent two days watching Weibo (Push! ) and the documentary of BBC and NG recommended by him, the basic introduction of whales on WWF and the pictures of whales on NG. The following figure is the outline of my initial work:

I finally chose to take notes, a very primitive and intuitive method, and found information about whales on pinterest, which helped me a lot in information integration. The preliminary outline helped me to roughly classify and plan the overall content, and later I subdivided and integrated it according to the presentation form and reading experience.

Step 2: Consider the presentation forms of different contents.

Let's start with a page layout, and then elaborate on the content and interaction form of each block.

The first page:

0 1. I made the animal classification into a progressive tab page and put it in the middle of the first page, hoping that children can see it at first sight and have a basic understanding of the animal classification methods and families under cetaceans.

02. At the beginning, a whale illustration was placed under the animal classification to introduce the most common whale species. Later, because I was a little thin, I saw many favorite pictures on ng, so I couldn't help adding an album to it. The advantage is that children can intuitively see the size contrast of various whale bodies after enjoying the photo album. At the same time, I attached the endangered level of this whale in the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species to each photo. When looking up the red list of endangered species, my mother asked me why I always sigh. According to the report of WWF 20 17, due to rampant illegal fishing, there are only 30 capuchin finless porpoises left in California Bay, and the baiji, which is endemic to China, has been functionally extinct. Every time I see whales on the verge of extinction because of human greed or man-made destruction of their habitats, I really feel very sad, and I can feel more about animal protection organizations such as WWF.

03. In the "comparison" part of the outline (the difference between fin whales and toothed whales and the comparison of basic information of cetaceans [page 2]), I chose drawers and cards to be placed on both sides of the home page. These cards are easy for children to draw, easy to master, one for each theme, clear and easy to understand (the main purpose of this notebook is to read later)

04. I like the small folding mechanism very much, which is very suitable for listing items, so I will display the species names of toothed whales and baleen whales in a folded way, and put them on the right side of the baleen toothed whales comparison and the lower side of the whale photo album, which will not occupy space but also supplement the explanatory information.

05. In the early stage, I found the basic information of the most common 16 cetaceans, including body length, weight, activity depth, world distribution, caudal fin, dorsal fin shape and so on. The amount of information was so large that I was overwhelmed at one time. Fortunately, I found a set of diagrams of these comparative information of the dorsal fin head of the caudal fin, so I used it directly as a card. And I made a "best" quiz unit with information such as length, weight and activity depth.

06. Judging whale species by water column is the most commonly used method to distinguish whales. What I do in this part is a simple flip.

Page two:

0 1. I combined the world distribution of whales with the whale watching guide and made a semi-circular manual with the two-legged nail recommended at the beginning. In order to avoid the paper jam caused by repeated rotation, I specially added a round pad on the back. (Small users feedback this is very interesting! )

02. I have been making a general introduction and comparison of cetaceans, so I specially made a small section about humpback whales in the center of the second page to learn more about this amazing whale (I like humpback whales so much that I always wanted to get a tattoo on my body, purely to satisfy my selfish desires), including:

1. Body structure

2. Whale whisker structure

3. Unique cooperative hunting method

4. The way and significance of superficial activities

5. Migration route

03. The puzzle is the child's favorite part, and it turns out that this book is also her favorite part, so at first, I did not hesitate to make three editions of the puzzle (2x4, 3x4, 3x5). Considering the size of each puzzle and the amount of information in the picture, the maximum is only 15. At the same time, I hope she doesn't spend too much time on puzzles when reading this book. During the test, I found that this concave-convex puzzle is not easy to be spliced, so I made two frames according to the size of the puzzle to help fix the position of the puzzle. (The box was made in a hurry, really rough, haha)

Finally, let's take a look at my labor results ~ the feedback from small users is not bad. The disadvantage is that the 200g 4-fold paper board is still a little thin, and it is easy to wrinkle when it is often turned over. 4k is a little big for children. The envelope puzzle is tightly stored, but it is a little inconvenient for children to take it out. The cards in the drawer are very easy to fall out, but if there are enough cards thick enough, the probability of this happening will be lower.

Here are some tips for making notebooks:

1. Use real pictures or illustrations with uniform style (uniform style is the key).

2. Don't have too many colors. Cardboard with low saturation is omnipotent.

Unified font

4. Make scenes, layers and interactions as interesting as possible without losing logic (search the notebook template to understand the design of the interaction area).

In fact, Lapbook is most suitable for parent-child manual or senior students to do it themselves!

On the one hand, Lapbook can be made by parents to help young babies learn knowledge systematically. On the other hand, in fact, the main users of Lapbook in North America are primary school students who can read and write. Students can exercise the following abilities through the whole process of making notebooks:

1. Can draw, subtract and paste fine movements.

2. The ability to search for original data, classify content and summarize.

3. Ability to produce and display content

4. Ability to plan and implement.

5. Ability to take notes

Parents of senior students can help them sort out their knowledge points and make a content outline before making, and leave the rest to them to play with ~ finally, let's take a look at someone else's Lapbook!
