In Greek mythology, the swallow was changed by an Athenian princess named Plocque Nie. The princess's husband is the cruel king of Thrace. He bullies his sister-in-law Philomela. Plocque's younger sister was rescued. In retaliation for her husband's evil deeds, she killed herself and her own son King Thrace and chopped them up for her husband to eat. When the tyrant found out that he was eating his own son, he vowed to kill the two women. God helped them escape. Plocque became a swallow and Philomela became a nightingale.
