Metrological certification is a form of qualification recognition. It refers to the evaluation and accreditation activities of the National Certification and Accreditation Administration and the quality and technical supervision departments of the people's governments of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government on whether the basic conditions and capabilities of laboratories comply with laws, administrative regulations and the implementation of relevant technical specifications or standards.

A product quality inspection institution that has obtained the metrological certification certificate may use the metrological certification mark on its product inspection report according to the inspection items determined by the certificate. The mark consists of two parts: the figure formed by CMA and the number of the metrological certification certificate of the inspection institution. CMA consists of the first capital letter of the English word China Metrology Accreditation, which means "China Metrology Certification".
