Samba is a milestone in Brazilian culture and history.
As mentioned above, the carnival is a competition, so dozens of samba schools in Rio will spend a whole year preparing for the carnival. The competition is divided into six grades, special group and ABCDE group. Only special groups are qualified to perform in front of 90 thousand audience on the famous Sambodromo. It takes at least one hour for each samba school to walk this kilometer, because the team is really huge, with a performance team of 3,000-5,000 people and 6-8 floats.

The competition is divided into two days, with six schools every day. The judges scored according to the dance, music, costumes, story arrangement and float design of each school. The last player in the special group will be demoted to Group A for one year, while the first player in the competition in Group A will be promoted to the special group. Every samba school will set a theme every year, and all links will focus on this theme and try their best to render it.

The winner of the Rio Samba Parade in 2009 was Salgueiro. This school was once one of the earliest stages for Brazilians in Africa to show themselves, but now it has become a typical elite drum group with middle-class fans. It has a performance hall near the center of Rio. In contrast, the performance venues of other drum groups are mostly located in slums, which is quite dangerous for tourists.

Carnival 20 10 is the second day of our new year's day, February 15. It is said that there are already TV stations talking about broadcasting rights. Maybe we'll get a chance to watch the carnival live on TV.
