Japanese animation industry is a comprehensive industry including magazines, books, videos and other fields, and involves toys, electronic games, stationery, food, clothing, advertising, services and other fields. In the past decade, the average annual sales revenue of Japanese animation industry has reached 200 billion yen, making it one of the three pillar industries of Japanese economy. In fact, with the sales revenue of animation derivatives, the animation industry in a broad sense accounts for more than 6% of Japan's GDP on average. In 2005, the proportion of the whole animation industry in Japan's GDP even exceeded 16%, surpassing the automobile industry. In 2007, the output value of American animation products and derivative products exceeded $5 billion, while the annual turnover of Japanese animation, comic books and video games exceeded $9 billion.
