survey result

1. Basic information of respondents

The average age of the respondents was 17.3 years old, with 58.43% female and 38.4% male.

Judging from the education level, as most of the respondents are in school age, 77.4% of the respondents said that they have secondary school education, and junior college and university education accounted for 17.9%.

Body mass index

32.26% of the respondents were underweight, 44.09% were normal, 8.48% were overweight, 15. 17% were obese and obese.

80% of women are underweight and normal, and 68% of men are underweight and normal.

Relatively speaking, the overweight problem of male respondents is more serious than that of women.

2. Self-body perception

The survey also interviewed respondents' views on their body shape and compared them with the objective body mass index. The survey found that respondents generally tend to think that they are obese, even if their actual weight is normal or even light.

Among the respondents who said they planned to lose weight, 79.8% were normal or even underweight.

Among the respondents who are actually underweight, more than 57% think that they are moderately fat.

More than 44% of the respondents with normal actual weight think that their body shape is slightly fat and extremely fat.

3. The influence of obesity on different sexes

The survey shows that there are obvious differences in the influence of obesity on different sexes, especially on women.

Respondents believe that the first three effects of obesity are "lack of self-confidence" accounting for 6 1.45%, the second is "being teased" accounting for 58.83%, and the third is "being discriminated against" accounting for 36. 13%.

In short, the impact of obesity on women is obviously greater than that of men, and the specific figures are shown in the table below:

Female male

Percentage percentage

70.98% of the first person lacked self-confidence and 53.58% was teased.

The second one was teased by 63.2 1% and lacked confidence by 48.28%.

The third place was discriminated by 38.86% and 32. 10%.

Especially in the aspect of "unconfidence" caused by obesity, 70.98% of women are 22 percentage points higher than 48.28% of men, which shows that obesity has a more serious impact on women than men. At the same time, both men and women believe that obesity is one of the reasons for being discriminated against and teased.

4. The influence of obesity on physical, psychological and social life.

Most interviewees think that one of the effects of obesity on the body is "slow movement" (59.9%) and "chronic diseases" (32.59%), and they mainly mention cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, stroke, heart disease and diabetes). It is believed that obesity can cause "joint pain" and "hormone imbalance", accounting for 16% and 1 1% respectively. In addition, about 10% of the respondents mentioned other influences, but mainly on appearance. This shows that most respondents are not concerned about the health crisis caused by obesity, but only pay attention to some superficial problems.

In addition, psychologically and socially, the most interviewed teenagers think that the impact of obesity is "lack of self-confidence" (6 1%), followed by being teased (56%) and being discriminated against (36%). The results show that for teenagers, body shape pays more attention to the psychological and social effects caused by obesity, but less attention to the diseases and physiological effects caused by obesity.

5. Social ethos and crisis

The survey results show that there is a strong trend of slimming in society. Most of the relatives and friends of the interviewed teenagers said that they would or had lost weight, and they also thought that the slimming trend in society would prompt people to lose weight blindly.

Among the respondents, 56% think that the current trend of slimming in society is too strong, only 2.52% think it is not popular, and others say that they have not paid attention to it or are average.

8 1% of the respondents said that their relatives and friends had mentioned or lost weight in the past six months, while 4 or more relatives and friends had the above behaviors, reaching 4 1%.

63% respondents believe that the current trend of slimming will make people lose weight blindly.

Females are most dissatisfied with their bodies: thighs (43.35%) and stomachs (40.24%).

The most dissatisfied part of a man's body is his belly (35.438+0%).

On average, women's dissatisfaction with their figure is 1.86, while men's dissatisfaction is 1. 15. Women are more dissatisfied with their bodies than men.

6. Correct concept of losing weight: rational consumers

The survey found that respondents thought that "it would not affect their health" (47.33%), "word of mouth of family/friends" (37.44%) and "successful cases" (35. 12%) were important factors in deciding to adopt the weight loss method. This shows that most of the respondents are rational consumers.

As for the concept of losing weight, it shows that they know how to lose weight healthily and will consult professionals when necessary. Most interviewees think that "exercise" (75%), "balanced diet" (66%), "changing bad eating habits" (50%) and "changing bad living habits" (44%) are healthy ways to lose weight. When asked who they would ask for help when they need to lose weight, more than 39% of the respondents said they would ask a dietitian for help, followed by "friends" (38%) and "doctors or other medical personnel" (26%).

7. Insufficient information on correct weight loss

At present, it is easy to get in touch with advertisements about slimming, which mainly focus on the changes of users' body shape, and the information that can provide for healthy weight control is extremely limited.

5 1% of the respondents think that the information provided by society about the correct way to lose weight is not enough, and they mainly want to get the information about the correct way to lose weight from newspapers and magazines (50%), followed by electronic media (35%), websites (32%) or school activities (28%).

abstract

Correctly understand the influence of obesity

Teenagers at developmental age, being underweight or overweight will have a negative impact on their development and health. Although young people pay more attention to posture and weight at present, their focus is mainly on the appearance and social impact brought by obesity, and less on the damage of obesity to physical function. Although teenagers all know that a healthy diet and adequate exercise are the best ways to control their weight. But in fact, when you really need to control your weight, you often choose some methods that can lose weight in a short time without exercise. Therefore, we think it is necessary to make young people more aware of the influence of obesity, using drugs and other methods to lose weight quickly on physical function, and promote the implementation of healthy diet and sports culture, which will become our daily habits and eventually make young people grow up healthily and face social challenges.

Social and cultural aspects

At present, there is a general concept in society that thinness is beauty. No matter what your weight is now, you can get a more perfect posture by slimming. Therefore, it is very important to provide the younger generation with a correct concept of physical health, so that they can have a healthy constitution to face the challenges brought by growth. As for the general public, we should also raise public awareness of the physiological effects caused by obesity through publicity and education, and urge the whole society to pay attention to healthy diet and living habits, enhance physical fitness through daily exercise, and finally promote us to build a healthy and energetic society.

Education aspect

Newspapers and magazines are powerful media to contact the public, and teenagers also accept how to exercise their normal posture healthily from the mass media. Therefore, the media can add more columns on correct weight loss or nutrition, and invite professionals such as medical staff or nutritionists to provide relevant information. On the other hand, the government's health education should also distribute some correct health information through some channels generally accepted by students, such as newspapers and magazines, so as to reach and teach these interviewees more effectively.

In addition, schools are also the main way to reach out to young people. In the arrangement of school courses or activities, we can consider increasing educational activities on topics such as physical health, weight loss, healthy diet and living habits. Enable students to obtain correct physical health information and establish a healthy life and diet culture.

In order to promote young people to establish a healthy life and diet culture, Michelot Company and Hong Kong Playground Association have designed and produced a textbook package for young people's physical health according to the actual needs reflected by the survey results, which is distributed to all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong free of charge to provide knowledge about healthy body image and promote the establishment of healthy diet and attitude towards life.
