Mianyang Vocational and Technical College is a full-time ordinary higher vocational college organized by Mianyang Municipal People's Government, approved by Sichuan Provincial People's Government and filed by the Ministry of Education. It is a national model higher vocational college, the first batch of high-end technical skills undergraduate education pilot colleges in Sichuan Province, the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot colleges in Sichuan Province, and the pilot colleges of comprehensive innovation and reform in Sichuan Province.

The predecessor of the college was Suqian Glass Vocational School in Jiangsu Province (later evolved into Sichuan Building Materials Industry School) founded in 1933.

200 1 With the approval of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Sichuan Building Materials Industry School, Mianyang Industrial School and Mianyang Electromechanical Industry School were merged and upgraded to Mianyang Vocational and Technical College; 20 15 merger of some majors in Mianyang water conservancy and electric power school.
