There are two possibilities for itchy throat and cough. First, it may be chronic pharyngitis. The persistence of inflammation will lead to itchy throat or foreign body sensation, which will cause cough. Second, it may be a precursor to a cold. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the exogenous wind-cold or wind-heat during a cold is due to the invasion of the lungs, and the invasion of exogenous pathogenic factors leads to abnormal health function of the lungs, so the lung qi rushes up, leading to itchy throat and cough.
