BYD Tang dm lacks electricity and fuel consumption.
It was said to be a fuel-efficient competition, but in fact, my media colleagues in the car didn't expect to win the prize. Besides, I don't want to take a sauna in the car on a hot day of over 30 degrees. What's more, I've never seen anyone turn off the engine in summer, so our car didn't run the fuel-saving race in an extreme way, but it was a little slower than normal driving.

Yes, I received an invitation from BYD to test drive a new generation of Tang. As a matter of fact, I took part in the fuel-saving race with Don. Some people may think that it is not easy to reduce fuel consumption by having a fuel-saving race with Don ·DMI. After all, Tang DMI is almost the plug-in hybrid vehicle with the largest battery capacity on the market. The fuel-saving race is only 64 kilometers. Tang Chun's cruising range reaches 1 12 km without refueling. However, the problem is that this fuel-saving competition was held under the condition of insufficient electricity, and BYD Tang's 50 km fuel consumption integrated the use of oil and electricity, so the results of this competition also have certain reference significance for friends who have no conditions to install charging piles at home.

Because of the calculation method of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, when the first generation of Tang DM came out, the nominal fuel consumption was somewhat exaggerated, but in essence it was a simple and rude combination of engine and motor. In fact, few car owners can reach the level of propaganda by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The second generation of Tang DM adopts BSG motor with drive, which makes the calibration of power system working conditions and strategies more reasonable and can save fuel to some extent. However, I want to say that these two generations of Tang Dou can only be regarded as dealing with hybrid vehicles, because the hybrid systems they use are all patchwork. A new generation of Tang, its engine, motor and battery are all developed around the same standard, that is fuel economy.

The first is the mixed structure. Tang DM-i hybrid system is mainly driven by the driving motor, and the engine can drive the high-power motor alone to generate electricity for it. The generator of the first generation of Tang DM is integrated in the gearbox, which makes the engine unable to decouple from the task of driving the vehicle and will inevitably enter the inefficient work area. Secondly, batteries and motors. The second generation of Tang Motor solved the problem that the engine must participate in vehicle operation when generating electricity, but another problem is that the motor power is too small. In fact, BSG motors are mostly used in 48V hybrid systems, but the second-generation Tang DM is a plug-in hybrid model, which has low charging efficiency and cannot give full play to the advantages of large-capacity batteries. The new generation of Tang DMI completely cancels the gearbox and directly connects the engine with the high-power generator, which improves the charging efficiency and gives full play to the advantages of the high-capacity high-voltage system. Because of the change of the underlying design logic of BYD DM-i hybrid system, I am full of expectations for this fuel-saving competition.

After the vehicle set off, my media colleagues and I made a fatal mistake, that is, setting the battery SOC. Before leaving, I specially went to other vehicles to check the remaining power, almost all of which were around 22%. By increasing the battery SOC, the engine can be forced to enter the charging state. Because the final result is based on the average fuel consumption data of 50 kilometers provided by the vehicle, the overall race mileage is 64 kilometers, so the strategy of the champion car is that the engine can generate more power on the road after starting, and the pure electric mode is used as much as possible to reduce fuel consumption in the later stage, and finally the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 4.4L

However, personally, I think the performance of our car is more suitable for the owner's reference. For a distance of 64 kilometers, we only consumed 3.7L of fuel, and the average fuel consumption for 50 kilometers was 5.0L/ 100km. Although the average fuel consumption of the champion car is low, the cumulative fuel consumption of the race is 6.8 liters. We have two strategies. One is to slip the car as far as possible, and only before going downhill and traffic lights will the throttle be released early for energy recovery; Second, try to use pure electric mode in congested or uphill sections. Both of these strategies are aimed at reducing energy waste, but we have not deliberately slowed down. In fact, we are the first team to reach the finish line. But faster speed brings more wind resistance, and at the same time, it is accompanied by an increase in fuel consumption, which may be the reason why we rank third.

In addition to saving fuel, the new Tang DMI also improved the driving quality in an all-round way. Because most vehicles are mainly driven by electricity, Tang's dynamic response is unprecedented. For hybrid or pure electric vehicles, the timing and intensity of kinetic energy recovery intervention can not be ignored. During Tang's test drive, he didn't suddenly slow down as soon as he stepped on the accelerator, but gradually increased the deceleration. It can be seen that BYD has made great efforts in this regard. In terms of chassis, thanks to the "slimming" of 240kg, the weight transfer of the vehicle is smaller when cornering or bumping, and the suspension performance is heavier. Generally speaking, the DMI of the new Tang Dynasty has made all-round progress visible to the naked eye compared with the previous generation.

As mentioned earlier, Tang is a symbol of BYD's independent research and development. Through this fuel-saving experience, I firmly believe this. Giving R & D to supplier can balance the cost well, but it also means that you can't match the desired effect at will. Only independent research and development and control of the underlying design logic are the basis for building a good car. BYD Tang has done a good job in this respect.
