Jean Burt (Pavel Liska Pavel Liska), a young man tortured by nightmares, has the same dream over and over again: two demons broke into his bedroom and pushed him into an insane asylum. Exhausted Burt meets the mysterious Marquis (played by Jane Tryska and Jane Tryska). The eccentric marquis who threatened to treat Bertrand lured Bertrand to a gloomy madhouse. The sticky air, morbid crazy people, the "raw meat show" interspersed in the dark and a series of disgusting debauchery made Bert completely collapse. When he learned from the seemingly pure nurse Charlotte (Anna Geislerova Anna Geislerová) about the ugly faces of the Dean and the Marquis, this hellish nightmare had just begun.
This surreal work Nightmare Madhouse, created by Czech film and animation master Jan Svankmajer, won the Best Film at the Pearson Film Festival in 2005, the Best Art Direction and Poster Design Award at the Czech Golden Lion Award in 2006, and represented the Czech Republic in the competition for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 Oscar. Schwimmer warned the world at the beginning that this is an anti-aesthetic film, which tests your visual limit and challenges your psychological limit.
