What is the significance of studying microbial resources?
Microorganism is the general name of a large group of small organisms, so it is named because of its small size. Microbial genome research with less investment and quick results is the frontier field of genome research in the world today. China has a complex geographical environment and abundant microbial resources. Studying these microorganisms is of great significance for studying biological evolution, special enzymes and the structure and function of protein.

At the beginning of 1998, Chinese researchers discovered a thermophilic bacterium in the boiling spring during their investigation in Tengchong, Yunnan, which is most suitable for growing at a high temperature of about 75 degrees. After studying the classification and morphology, the researchers found that this extremely thermophilic bacterium, which was first discovered in China, is a new strain that has never been reported in the world.

Researchers extracted genomic DNA from cultured bacteria, constructed sequencing template library, and established software to reflect the progress and existing problems of sequencing, and assembled, annotated and searched genes. In terms of gene sequencing, we have achieved good results, such as daily output per machine, sequence reading length, accuracy and so on, keeping pace with international counterparts.
