Liu Ruoyu, an eunuch in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, recorded chicken-based dishes in Jing Si Lu, including half-winged chicken, roast chicken and roasted bamboo shoots chicken. In the Qing dynasty, the food in the palace was more exquisite, and Emperor Qianlong had to eat chicken for breakfast. Because emperors of past dynasties paid great attention to health preservation and trusted the nourishing function of traditional Chinese medicine, the royal chefs and doctors in the palace also made great efforts to study the production technology of medicated diet. After thousands of years, medicated diet and its formula became more and more mature. Jiudingxiang medicated chicken was made by the court formula in the late Qing Dynasty.
