Jade Buddha Temple
Located in the bustling downtown area at the east entrance of Anyuan Road, Putuo District, Shanghai, it is one of the famous Buddhist temples in Shanghai.
Jade Buddha Temple was built in 1882, covering an area of about 8,000 square meters, with 299 houses. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, Hui Gen, a Buddhist monk in Putuo Mountain, worshipped Buddha. On his way home, he went to Myanmar and invited five small jade buddhas. When passing through Shanghai, he left a sitting and lying statue of Sakyamuni, a white jade Buddha statue, and built a temple in Jiangwan for worship, hence the name Jade Buddha Temple.
