Empty nesters face many problems. First of all, they are very lonely. Their children often go home once or twice a year for about a week. Old people need to talk to young people and share their happiness and sadness. Loneliness often leads to different mental problems. Secondly, their health is also one of the most serious problems. As they get older, they get different diseases. Some of them don't go to see a doctor in the countryside because they don't want to spend money or have old-age insurance. To make matters worse, they keep this secret from their children and don't let them disturb them. Last but not least, sometimes they have to take care of their granddaughters or grandchildren. They need to send their children to school and cook for them every day. Some of them don't have enough energy to do everything because of their health and age.
So, what can we do for empty nesters? As far as I am concerned, the most important solution is that their children should go home more often and call their parents at least once a week. Young couples need to care about their parents' health and encourage them to go to the hospital once they feel uncomfortable. More importantly, society can help empty nesters and provide them with more and more free consultation and examination. In addition, more volunteers should be organized to chat with empty nesters or help them in their daily lives.
