Yiyang Medical College was founded in 1950, formerly known as Yiyang Health School, and was upgraded to a public full-time general college with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2007. The school is a national standardized training base for general practitioners, a national oral health education base, a training base for schistosomiasis control in Hunan Province, and a cooperative school for training nursing talents in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. The school has set up 13 majors, including clinical medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, medical examination technology, rehabilitation treatment technology, traditional Chinese medicine, drug quality and safety, drug production technology, optometry technology, medical imaging, health management, etc. Among them, nursing is a provincial-level specialty, and stomatology and pharmacy are supported by the central government and integrated in the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" of Hunan Province. In recent years, the school strives to improve the quality of education and teaching, and the pass rate of qualification examination ranks among the top in the province. More than 800 graduates have been admitted to Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Jishou University and Xiangnan College for further study. Every year, outstanding students are selected to participate in national or provincial vocational college skill competitions and have achieved excellent results.
