How to treat nephrotic syndrome with traditional Chinese medicine
Nephrotic syndrome can be divided into four types according to TCM syndrome differentiation.

(1) Deficiency of spleen and kidney, retention of water and dampness.

Main symptoms: edema of limbs, dysuria, sallow complexion, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, backache, pale and tender tongue, teeth marks on the edge, greasy or slippery fur, and slow and weak pulse.

Treatment: invigorating spleen and kidney, promoting diuresis and eliminating dampness.

Prescription: Jiawei Buzhong Yiqi Decoction.

40g of Radix Astragali, 20g of Radix Codonopsis, 30g of Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 30g of Pericarpium Citri Tangerinae 10g, Radix Bupleuri 10g, Radix Angelicae Sinensis 15g, 20g of Radix Morindae Officinalis, 20g of Semen Cuscutae, Poria cocos skin 15g, 30g of Semen Plantaginis, 30g of pericarpium Benincasae and 6g of Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata.

(2) Yang deficiency of spleen and kidney, internal resistance due to water dampness.

Main symptoms: severe edema, mainly in lower limbs, or accompanied by ascites, hydrothorax, dysuria, pale face, cold limbs, loss of appetite, thin stool, pale and fat tongue, thin and white fur and heavy pulse.

Treatment: Warming spleen and kidney, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling.

Prescription: Jiawei Zhenwu Decoction.

Cooked Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata 12g, Poria 30g, Atractylodis Rhizoma 20g, Radix Paeoniae Alba 10g, Cortex Zingiberis Recens 10g, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae 10g, Pericarpium Arecae 20g, Alismatis Rhizoma 15g.

(3) Yin deficiency of liver and kidney, and nostalgia for damp heat.

Main symptoms: edema of face or lower limbs, dysuria, soreness of waist and knees, dizziness and tinnitus, irritability and insomnia, frequent sore throat, dry mouth, constipation, thin white greasy or yellow tongue coating, and rapid pulse.

Treatment: nourishing liver and kidney, clearing away heat and promoting diuresis.

Prescription: Jiawei Baizhi Dihuang Pill.

Rhizoma Anemarrhenae 15g, Cortex Phellodendri 10g, Radix Rehmanniae 30g, Fructus Corni 10g, Cortex Moutan 15g, Rhizoma Alismatis 10g, Poria cocos 20g, Polyporus 10g, Semen Plantaginis 30g, Herba Lycopi 30g, and Herba Lycopi 30g.

(4) mutual resistance between blood stasis and water

Main symptoms: less urine and edema, dull complexion, petechiae or ecchymosis on lips and skin, low back pain such as pricking, immobility, rough skin, dark purple tongue or petechiae, thin or astringent pulse.

Treatment: promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, promoting diuresis and removing dampness.

Prescription: Jiawei Taohong Siwu Decoction.

Peach kernel 15g, safflower 15g, angelica sinensis 10g, Paeonia lactiflora 10g, Ligusticum chuanxiong 10g, leech 6g, Eupatorium adenophorum 15g, motherwort 30g and plantain seed10g.
