First of all, babies who are exclusively breastfed within 6 months generally do not need to be fed water alone. If you always give him water, it will occupy his stomach capacity, resulting in a decrease in the amount of breast milk eaten, which is not good for the baby's growth and development.
Because the main component of breast milk is water, for babies within 6 months, the water contained in breast milk is enough for the baby, and there is no need to add extra water.
If the mother gives the baby too much water, it will have a certain impact on the baby's appetite. Because the baby is young, the gastrointestinal function has not been fully developed. Moreover, the stomach capacity is also small, and drinking water will occupy the space of the stomach and reduce the baby's appetite. The baby grows and develops faster, and all the nutrients needed depend on breast milk. Insufficient breast milk intake will affect the baby's growth and development.
For infants less than 6 months, in the case of sufficient breast milk, the heat and moisture of breast milk can completely meet the needs of baby's metabolism and growth and development, and there is no need to supplement it at all.
Water needs to be broken down by the kidneys in the body. If the mother drinks too much water for the baby, it will put a burden on the baby's kidneys. Because the baby's kidney function is immature, the pressure on the kidney organs is too high, which is prone to abnormalities. This is not worth the loss.
Especially when the weather is cold, feeding too much water will make the baby urinate more. If you have too much urine, you have to change diapers back and forth, which will easily make your baby catch cold and cause a cold. Therefore, unless there are special circumstances, do not give water to exclusively breastfed babies within 6 months.
Of course, there are also some special situations that need to be properly supplemented with water, such as colds, fever, constipation, less urine, yellow urine and so on.
Babies over 6 months can add appropriate amount of water according to the increase of activity.
In addition, lactating mothers should pay attention to drinking water frequently every day and drinking soup before and after meals to ensure adequate breast milk. When the weather is hot, pay special attention to replenish more water and beware of getting angry.
