At present, there is enough evidence that vitamins and minerals play an important role in the prevention and treatment of some cancers, coronary heart disease, senile cataract, type 2 diabetes, birth defects of newborns, obesity and osteoporosis, and also play an important role in maintaining the appropriate immunity and cognitive ability of the elderly.
For the intake of nutrients, it is now internationally recognized that taking a variety of vitamins and mineral preparations at a reasonable dose on the basis of a balanced diet can prevent and treat malnutrition.
In order to improve the nutritional status of residents, the US government promulgated the Nutrition Supplementary Health and Education Act on 1994. In China, the effectiveness of taking nutrients to improve nutritional status has also been proved by the Ministry of Health of China and the National Institutes of Health of the United States.
However, it should be reminded that nutrients are not effective as soon as they are lost, and they need long-term regular use to play a role.
