Vitamin E plays the most extensive role in the human body, which is greater than any other nutrient, so it is called "guardian ambassador". It has a good antioxidant effect in the body, that is, it reduces cell aging. Maintain the integrity of red blood cells, promote cell synthesis, anti-pollution and anti-infertility.
Lack of vitamin E can lead to leg diseases such as atherosclerosis, anemia, cancer and cataract in the elderly. Form a scar; Will make the teeth yellow; Cause myopia; Causing disability and mental retardation; Cause male sexual dysfunction; Prostate hypertrophy and so on.

Kiwifruit, nuts (including almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts), sunflower seeds, corn, cold-pressed vegetable oil, including corn, safflower, soybean, cottonseed and wheat germ (the most abundant one), spinach and cabbage, sweet potato and yam. Lettuce, cabbage and cauliflower are vegetables with more vitamin E. Milk, eggs and cod liver oil also contain some vitamin E.
Edit this paragraph and get to know vitamin E again.
Speaking of vitamin e, I believe everyone must be familiar with it. In life, middle-aged and elderly people often take vitamin E to delay aging, while women like to choose cosmetics containing vitamin E to beautify and rejuvenate their skin. However, we know little about the role of vitamin E in the prevention and treatment of diseases and how to choose and take vitamin E correctly. Recently, at the seminar on "Vitamin E and Human Health", relevant experts comprehensively introduced the latest discovery and research of vitamin E.
Found vitamin e
According to Yang Xiaoguang, a researcher at Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine 1922, foreign experts found that a fat-soluble dietary factor is very important for the normal reproduction of rats. This factor is named vitamin E in 1924. In subsequent animal experiments, scientists found that if mice lack vitamin E, their hearts, livers and muscles will degenerate and they will be infertile. If mice lack vitamin E, male mice will never have children, and female mice will never be pregnant with full-term fetuses. At the same time, there are symptoms such as liver degeneration and myocardial abnormality. Without vitamin e, monkeys will be anaemic, infertile and have abnormal myocardium. In the 1980s, medical experts found that if human beings lacked vitamin E, it would cause hereditary diseases and metabolic diseases. With the deepening of research, medical experts have realized that vitamin E plays a wide role in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, tumors, diabetes and other complications, central nervous system diseases, sports system diseases, skin diseases and so on.
Natural vitamin e gradually replaces synthetic vitamin e.
According to professionals engaged in vitamin research, many people buy vitamin E for health care and disease prevention, but they are generally synthetic vitamin E products. With the development of modern medicine and nutrition, scientists have found that natural vitamin E is actually more in line with human needs than synthetic products. These natural vitamin E are widely found in the green parts of plants and the germ of Gramineae seeds, especially in vegetable oil.
It is understood that natural vitamin E is separated and purified from soybean oil with high technology. Because there is no chemical reaction in the production process, this natural vitamin E maintains the original physiological activity and natural properties of vitamin E, is easier to be absorbed and utilized by human body, is safer than synthetic vitamin E, and is more suitable for long-term administration. Experiments have also proved that the antioxidant and anti-aging performance of natural vitamin E is dozens of times that of synthetic vitamin E. In addition, natural vitamin E is gradually replacing synthetic vitamin E in medical products, health food and cosmetics.
In China, natural vitamin E is expected to enter the market at a moderate price in the near future to meet the needs of public health.
Edit this paragraph. Taking vitamin E varies from person to person.
According to Li Keji, a researcher in the Sports Medicine Research Office of Peking University Third Hospital, vitamin E deficiency is very rare, especially in China, where the dietary structure is dominated by plant food, the intake of vitamin E is generally high. If there is no fat absorption disorder, vitamin E provided in the diet can basically meet the normal needs of the human body. However, a large number of clinical experiments have proved that vitamin E does have the function of preventing and treating diseases, but its specific dosage and method of use are still inconclusive. Associate researcher Wang Fu of Shanghai Second Military Medical University introduced the clinical application of vitamin E in treating various diseases at home and abroad.
1, treating atherosclerosis
It has been reported abroad that daily intake of vitamin 100 mg can slow down the progress of mild, moderate and severe coronary atherosclerosis. Daily vitamin C supplementation or multivitamins can not slow down the progression of coronary atherosclerosis. It is also reported that after taking 200 mg of vitamin E and 90,000 units of vitamin A 6 to 65,438+00 weeks, the symptoms such as headache, insomnia, dizziness and tinnitus will be alleviated, and blood pressure, blood lipid and cholesterol will be reduced.
2. Treatment of congestive heart failure and angina pectoris For these patients, vitamin E of E200 mg to 400 mg per day can increase the exercise load, make angina pectoris disappear and have diuretic effect.
3. Preventive and therapeutic effects on tumors Experiments in vitro and in vivo show that vitamin E can control the growth of tumor cells and reduce or delay the occurrence of tumors in vivo. Epidemiological data also show that the intake of vitamin E in human body is negatively correlated with tumor.
For example, foreign studies have found that high-dose vitamin E can prevent hair loss caused by chemotherapy drug adriamycin. The general dose is 1600 mg per day, which should be taken 5 ~ 7 days before chemotherapy.
4, vitamin E and gynecological diseases Taking vitamin E capsules can cure some women's bleeding or menorrhagia after placing intrauterine devices. The method is: take vitamin E 100 mg orally every other day, 7 days for 1 course of treatment, and general treatment for 1 to 3 courses of treatment. Another literature reported that vitamin E can treat immune infertility, anovulatory infertility and habitual abortion.
However, the research results of Finnish male smokers show that vitamin E can reduce the risk of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarction on the one hand and increase the risk of bleeding, such as cerebral hemorrhage on the other. Therefore, vitamin E should not be taken in excess. Researcher Li Keji finally reminded readers that vitamin E deficiency is a rare disease, and it must be carried out under the guidance of a doctor when it is used to prevent and treat diseases. Don't be as eager for success as calcium supplementation.
Matters needing attention
Vitamin e is usually nontoxic. When taken in large doses (per day 1, more than 200 international units), it can cause nausea, flatulence, diarrhea, rapid heartbeat and other adverse reactions.
Please consult your health consultant before taking vitamin E when you have the following conditions:
If you have high blood pressure.
If you are using an anticoagulant, such as sodium acetylcoumarin or benzyl acetylcoumarin.
Edit the drug interactions in this paragraph.
If vitamin E is taken together with acetone benzyl hydroxycoumarin (a coagulant), it will increase the possibility of abnormal bleeding. Cholesterol-lowering drugs called bile acid chelating agents (such as coletipol and coleenamine) will reduce the absorption of vitamin E, which will interact with cyclosporine (a drug for treating cancer) and reduce its curative effect.
Edit the anti-aging effect of this paragraph.
VE, also known as tocopherol or pregnancy-induced phenol, exists in edible oil, fruits, vegetables and grains. 1988 was successfully synthesized, and now there are tablets, injections, suppositories and other dosage forms.
As the name implies, vitamin E, also known as tocopherol or pregnancy-induced phenol, can maintain the normal function of reproductive organs, have a good influence on the metabolism of the body, increase the weight of the ovary, promote its function, promote follicular maturation, enlarge the corpus luteum, and inhibit the oxidation of progesterone in the whole body, thus increasing the role of progesterone. In addition, vitamin E has adjuvant therapeutic effects on menorrhagia, vulvar pruritus, leg spasm at night, hemorrhoids, etc. In recent years, vitamin E has been widely used in anti-aging, which can eliminate the deposition of lipofuscin in cells, improve the normal function of cells and slow down the aging process of tissues and cells.
In view of so many functions of vitamin E, some media have greatly "marveled" at the product, and even unilaterally exaggerated the beneficial effects that large doses of vitamin E may play in the body, leading to the phenomenon of vitamin E fever and indiscriminate eating of vitamin E in the market.
Fat solubility:
Stored in liver, adipose tissue, heart, muscle, testis, uterus, blood, accessory kidney, pituitary gland, etc.
It used to be measured by weight, but now considering the function of living things, its measurement is measured by IU (International Unit). One international unit of vitamin E is equal to 1 mg of vitamin E; It consists of eight compounds called tocopherol, namely α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ,
η and θ, among which α -tocopherol has the strongest effect;
The enemy of vitamin e
High temperature, oxygen, sub-zero temperature, food processing, iron, chlorine and mineral oil.

Provide oxygen to your body to make you last longer;
Together with vitamin A, it can resist air pollution and protect the lungs;
Prevent blood coagulation;
Reduce fatigue;
It is an external medicine (which can be absorbed through the skin) and an internal medicine for local trauma, which can prevent scars;
Accelerate the recovery of burns;
Lowering blood pressure through diuretics;
Prevention of abortion;
Helps to relieve leg cramps and stiff hands and feet;
Reduce the chance of ischemic heart disease.
normal requirement
[Normal human needs]
The recommended daily intake for adults is 8 ~10iu;
60% ~ 70% of daily intake will be excreted with excrement. Different from other fat-soluble vitamins, vitamin E has a short storage time in human body, which is the same as vitamins B and C; Medical experts believe that the common oral dose of vitamin E should be 10 to 100 mg each time, 1 3 times a day. Large dose means more than 400 mg per day, and long-term use means continuous use for more than 6 months. Vitamin E contained in the general diet can fully meet the needs of the human body. Therefore, it is not only unnecessary for the elderly to take vitamin E for a long time, but also unsafe and has side effects.
Too much
Is taking a large dose of vitamin E really beneficial and harmless? Robert, an American medical expert, suggested that taking large doses of vitamin E for a long time would cause various diseases. Among them, thrombophlebitis or pulmonary embolism, or both occur at the same time, because large doses of vitamin E can cause platelet aggregation and formation; When blood pressure rises, blood pressure can be reduced or returned to normal after drug withdrawal; Breast hypertrophy can occur in both men and women; Headache, dizziness, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle weakness;
Chapped skin, cheilitis, angular stomatitis, urticaria; Symptoms of diabetes or angina pectoris are obviously aggravated; Hormone metabolism disorder, prothrombin reduction; Blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels increased; Platelets increase, vitality increases, and immune function decreases.
Vitamin e poisoning
Adults take relatively large doses of vitamin E(D-α- tocopherol 400~800mg/d) for several years without obvious damage. Those who take 800~3200mg/d occasionally have muscle weakness, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea. The most obvious toxic effect of vitamin E > 1000 mg/d is to antagonize and enhance the effect of vitamin K.
lack
Vitamin e deficiency
Red blood cell destruction, muscle degeneration, anemia, reproductive dysfunction.
food source
Foods rich in vitamin e
Malt, soybean, vegetable oil, nuts, Brussels sprouts, green leafy vegetables, spinach, nutritious flour, whole wheat, unrefined cereal products, eggs.
Nutritional supplements
Both fat-soluble capsules and water-soluble tablets are acceptable.
Generally sell 100 ~ 1500 IU of vitamin e. Water-soluble vitamin E is suitable for people who don't eat greasy food or people who eat greasy food will cause skin lesions, especially middle-aged people over 40 years old.
The average daily intake is 200 ~ 1200 IU.
Drug combination
Inorganic iron (ferrous sulfate) can destroy vitamin E, so it cannot be taken at the same time. If you take a nutritional supplement containing a small amount of ferrous sulfate and take vitamin E at the same time, it must be 8 hours apart;
Special purpose
People whose diets are rich in polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oil and fish oil) must take more vitamin E;
Organic iron such as ferrous gluconate, pepsin, citrate and crotonate will not destroy vitamin E;
People who drink tap water poisoned by chlordecone must take more vitamin E;
Women who take birth control pills, hormones or during pregnancy and lactation must take more vitamin E;
In order to increase the intake of vitamin E in menopausal women, it is recommended to take tocopherol complex, 400 ~ 1200 IU per day.
Vitamin e will not reduce the incidence of heart disease.
A recent study in Canada found that taking vitamin E does not reduce the incidence of heart disease. If you take vitamin E every day for 4 to 6 years, the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke or death from heart disease is not lower than that of people who take placebo every day.
Vitamin E is a low oxidation antioxidant. Oxidation is a natural reaction related to aging and diseases, including arteriosclerosis. In the recent research experiment, the researchers randomly divided the subjects over 55 into two groups, one group took vitamin E supplement containing 400 international units, and the other group took placebo. Each subject had heart disease or diabetes, or at least one risk factor for myocardial infarction or stroke. Through research, it is found that after 46 years, there is no difference in test results. The number of people who suffered from myocardial infarction or stroke was similar between the two groups, and the number of people who died of cardiovascular diseases was roughly the same. This proves that although no side effects are found, taking vitamin E will not offset the negative effects of smoking, eating fatty foods and other unhealthy lifestyles.
Negative effects.

Edit this section of absorption and metabolism
Recommended intake: 60 mg daily.
Maximum intake: the amount that causes diarrhea;
Lack of symptoms: scurvy
Symptoms of overdose: diarrhea
Main food sources: citrus fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin C in food is absorbed by the upper part of human small intestine. Once absorbed, it will be distributed to all water-soluble structures in the body. There is about 1500mg vitamin C in the vitamin C metabolism pool of normal adults, and the highest storage peak is 3000mg. Under normal circumstances, most vitamin C is decomposed into oxalic acid or combined with sulfuric acid to generate ascorbic acid -2- sulfuric acid, which is excreted in urine. The other part can be excreted directly through urine.
Generally, animals can synthesize vitamin C through glucose metabolism in the body. However, humans, apes, guinea pigs, some birds and fish cannot synthesize vitamin C themselves, and they need food to meet their needs. Therefore, vitamin C is an essential nutrient.
The absorption and metabolism of vitamin C in human body has its own set, which is briefly introduced.
? Factors affecting the absorption rate of vitamin c.
The absorption rate of vitamin C is related to the intake. When the intake is 30- 180MG, the absorption rate can reach 70%-90%. But when the intake is 1500MG, the absorption rate drops to 50%. When the intake reaches 6000 MG, the absorption rate is only 16%.
The absorption rate is not only affected by intake, but also by fever, stress and long-term injection of antibiotics or corticosteroids.
? The absorption of vitamin c.
Intake of vitamin C is usually absorbed in the upper part of the small intestine (duodenum and jejunum), but only a small amount is absorbed by the stomach, and a little is absorbed by the mucosa in the mouth. Unabsorbed vitamin C will be directly transferred to the large intestine. No matter how much vitamin C is transferred to the large intestine, it will be decomposed into gaseous substances by intestinal microorganisms, which has no effect. Therefore, when the body absorption rate is fixed, more intake is equal to more waste.
The absorption rate of small intestine varies according to the intake of vitamin C. At the same time, it is also different after meals and on an empty stomach, and it is also different because of different personal intake.
Taking the intake of vitamin C 1000MG as an example, the absorption rate on an empty stomach is about 30%, and the absorption rate of foreign capital after meals can reach 50%.
According to the absorption rate, it is better to take vitamin C three times a day immediately after meals, and it can also prevent the side effects caused by high doses of vitamin C.
? Metabolism of vitamin c.
At present, the metabolic process and transformation mode of vitamin C in vivo are still inconclusive, but it is certain that the final metabolite of vitamin C is excreted through urine. If the concentration of vitamin C in urine is too high, it can reduce the pH of urine and prevent bacteria from growing, so it can avoid urinary tract infection.
Oxalic acid is one of the metabolites of vitamin C, and its excretion varies from person to person. On average, 16-64MG of oxalic acid is excreted with urine every day. Most people worry that too much oxalic acid will cause stones. In fact, except for a part of oxalic acid which is metabolized by vitamin C, most of the rest is directly ingested from food or produced by amino acid metabolism.
According to experiments, even if a large amount of vitamin C is ingested, the amount of oxalic acid in urine will not increase, so there is no need to worry about the stone problem caused by vitamin C.
Vitamin C is excreted through the kidney, so the kidney has the function of regulating the excretion rate of vitamin C. When the vitamin C in the tissue reaches saturation, the excretion will increase. When the tissue content is insufficient, excretion is reduced.
? The content of vitamin c in human body.
Vitamin C absorbed from the upper part of the small intestine is transported to the blood through the portal vein and hepatic vein, and transferred to the tissues of various parts of the body.
When people eat vitamin C, the concentration of vitamin C in brain and kidney is the highest, followed by eyeball, brain, liver and spleen. When the total storage of vitamin C in the body is less than 300mg, there is a risk of scurvy. The maximum storage of vitamin C in the human body is 2000mg.
? How vitamin c is destroyed.
Vitamin C, which is indispensable for modern people, is a fragile vitamin, which will be destroyed when exposed to water, heat, light, oxygen and smoke. Heat cooking, put it in front of the store to let the sun shine directly, soak in water, etc. , will greatly reduce the vitamin C of vegetables. Each cigarette consumes 25 mg of vitamin C in the body. People who smoke 20 cigarettes a day will consume 1-2. 5 grams of vitamin C, at the same time, the concentration of vitamin C in the blood will also be reduced, and vitamin C will not be able to fully play its role.
No matter whether vitamin C exists in vitro or in vivo, it is easy to be destroyed, but even if it is ingested in large quantities, it is harmless, but it cannot be ingested too much at once, because it will be completely absorbed after being ingested in large quantities, and the final result will still be excreted. The best way is to separate the time and use it in stages, which can improve the absorption rate of vitamin C in the body.
Smokers need to take vitamin C health food after every meal. Vegetables or fruits have the most vitamin C in season, so don't forget to eat more.
Edit this paragraph on the role of drugs.
Vitamin C participates in many reactions in the body, such as redox process, and plays an important role in biological redox and cell respiration. From the tissue level, the main function of vitamin C is related to the synthesis of intercellular substance. Including collagen, the matrix of teeth and bones, and the connection between capillary endothelial cells. Therefore, when vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy, it is accompanied by collagen synthesis defect, which is characterized by difficult wound healing, tooth formation disorder, capillary injury causing a large number of blood stasis points, and blood stasis points fuse to form ecchymosis.
Edit this paragraph for over-performance.
1, taking too much VC supplement in a short time will produce side effects such as polyuria, diarrhea and rash;
2. Taking excessive VC supplements for a long time may lead to oxalic acid and uric acid stones;
3, children take too much during their growth period, which is prone to bone diseases.
4, a one-time intake of VC2500-5000 mg or more, may lead to a large number of red blood cells rupture, hemolysis and other critical phenomena.
(The above question refers to the traditional acidic vitamin C. If it was acid-free vitamin C, such a thing would not have happened. )
Recently, Austrian scientists have warned that the abuse of vitamin C will weaken human immunity.
Professor Goldberg of the Institute of Medicinal Chemistry of the University of Vienna recently told the press that studies have proved that vitamin C plays an important role in the composition of neurotransmitters such as protein and adrenaline in human connective tissue. When people are infected or have other inflammations, the demand for vitamin C also increases, but we must be very cautious when using large doses of vitamins.
Professor Goldberg warned that increasing the dose of vitamins to more than once a day is not only meaningless, but also likely to backfire. Because there is too much vitamin C around white blood cells, it can not only prevent white blood cells from destroying germs, but also protect germs and cancer cells. Excessive vitamin C can not only enhance human immunity, but also weaken it. Professor Goldberg specially reminded us not to take vitamin C casually like eating jelly beans.
But if you eat more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, such as oranges, peppers, tomatoes or potatoes, you don't have to worry about taking too much vitamin C.
Editing this paragraph lacks performance.
1. The synthesis of collagen needs the participation of vitamin C, so without VC, collagen can't be synthesized normally, which leads to the disorder of cell connection. The human body is composed of cells, which are connected by intercellular substance, and the key component of intercellular substance is collagen. Collagen accounts for 1/3 of the protein of the body, which generates connective tissue and constitutes the bones of the body. Such as bones, blood vessels and ligaments. , determine the elasticity of the skin, protect the brain, and contribute to the healing of human trauma.
2. scurvy. The strength of vascular wall has a great relationship with VC. Microvessel is the smallest of all blood vessels, and its wall may be only one cell thick. Its strength and elasticity are determined by collagen, which is responsible for connecting cells and has the function of cement. When VC is insufficient in the body, microvessels are easy to rupture and blood flows to adjacent tissues. When this happens on the skin surface, it will produce congestion and cyanosis; When it happens in the body, it can cause pain and joint swelling. In severe cases, bleeding of stomach, intestine, nose, kidney and periosteum may occur, and even death may occur.
3. Gingival atrophy and bleeding. A healthy chewing gum tightly wraps every tooth. Gingiva is soft tissue, which is prone to atrophy and bleeding when lacking protein, calcium and VC.
4. Atherosclerosis occurs. Because VC can promote cholesterol excretion, prevent cholesterol from depositing on the inner wall of arteries, and even dissolve the deposited atherosclerotic plaques.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant. It can protect other antioxidants, such as vitamin A, vitamin E, unsaturated fatty acids, etc., and prevent free radicals from harming human body.
6. Anemia is because VC can reduce trivalent iron that is difficult to absorb and utilize to ferrous iron, promote the absorption of iron in intestine, improve the utilization rate of iron in liver, and help to treat iron deficiency anemia.
7. Prevent cancer. Rich collagen helps to prevent cancer cells from spreading; The antioxidant effect of VC can resist the damage of free radicals to cells and prevent cell variation; Prevent nitrite and secondary amine from forming strong carcinogen nitrosamine. Someone once dissected a patient who died of cancer and found that the VC content in the patient was almost zero.
8. Protect cells, detoxify and protect liver. In human life activities, it is very important to ensure the integrity and normal metabolism of cells. Therefore, glutathione and enzymes play an important role.
Glutathione is a short peptide composed of glutamic acid, cystine and glycine, which has redox effect in the body. It exists in two forms, namely oxidation type and reduction type, and reduction type plays an important role in ensuring the integrity of cell membrane. VC is a strong antioxidant, which reduces oxidized glutathione to reduced glutathione through its own oxidation, thus playing an antioxidant role.
Enzymes are catalysts for biochemical reactions, and some enzymes need free sulfhydryl (-SH) to keep their activity. VC can reduce disulfide bond (-S-S) to -SH, thus improving the activity of related enzymes and playing an antioxidant role.
As can be seen from the above, as long as VC is sufficient, VC, glutathione and -SH will form a powerful combination of anti-oxidation, scavenging free radicals, preventing lipid peroxidation and toxic effects of certain chemicals, and protecting the detoxification ability of the liver and the normal metabolism of cells.
9. The body's immunity drops.
White blood cells are rich in VC, and when the body is infected, the VC in white blood cells decreases sharply. VC can enhance the chemotaxis and deformability of neutrophils and improve their bactericidal ability. Promote the generation of lymphocytes and improve the body's ability to identify and kill foreign cells and malignant cells. Participate in the synthesis of immunoglobulin. Improve the activity of complement esterase in CI and increase the production of complement CI. Promote the production of interferon, interfere with the transcription of virus mRNA, and inhibit the proliferation of virus.
10. Improve the body's emergency response ability. Abnormal stimuli to the human body, such as severe pain, cold, lack of oxygen, strong mental stimulation, etc., will trigger a state of tension against abnormal stimuli. This state is accompanied by a series of organisms, including sympathetic nerve excitement, adrenal medulla and increased secretion of corticosteroids. Adrenaline and norepinephrine secreted by adrenal medulla are converted from tyrosine, which requires VC.
Vitamin C entering the human body is rapidly distributed in 20 tissues and organs. Under normal circumstances, the human vitamin C bank is 1500 mg. Most of the excess is excreted with urine, and a small part is excreted with stool, sweat and respiratory tract. But in the case of infection, the human body needs 20-40 times as much as usual, and all drugs will destroy VC in the body. Therefore, it is very beneficial to supplement VC when the human body is in a state. Davis, a famous American nutritionist, asked doctors who had studied nutrition whether VC should be taken as a routine medicine at home in order to take it at the early stage of any disease. Most doctors say, "It's definitely much safer than any aspirin", and it's better to use enough doses for the first time than to use small doses continuously.
Edit this paragraph for disease prevention.
A survey shows that slightly increasing the intake of some fruits and vegetables every day may play a role in preventing diseases.
Vitamin c may have a protective effect on some chronic diseases. However, from the prospective research results, the relationship between vitamin C and cardiovascular disease or cancer is not consistent. In order to evaluate the relationship between plasma vitamin C level and mortality of various causes (cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease and cancer), Khaw et al. of the School of Clinical Medicine, Cambridge University, UK conducted a four-year prospective survey on 19496 adults aged 45-79. (The Lancet 200 1, 357∶657)
The included subjects filled out the health and lifestyle questionnaire and received physical examination. The researchers tracked the cause of death for four years. These people were grouped according to sex-specific plasma vitamin C5 quantile. Cox proportional hazard model is used to determine the effects of vitamin C and other risk factors on mortality.
The results showed that the concentration of vitamin C in plasma was negatively correlated with the mortality of both sexes caused by various reasons, including cardiovascular diseases and ischemic heart diseases. The risk of death in the quintile with the highest vitamin C content is half that in the quintile with the lowest vitamin C content (P
