Pingchang Town is located in the northwest of Pingqiao District, Xinyang City, with a total area of 133.3 square kilometers. It now administers 19 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committees.

Pingchang Town is located in the north subtropical warm and humid climate zone, with four distinct seasons, rich light and heat, long frost-free period, abundant rainfall, flat terrain and excellent soil quality. With unique agricultural production conditions, it is known as Xinyang's "granary". Poplar, vegetables, cowpeas and pigs are the four characteristic pillar industries in this town, and rice, wheat, peanuts and corn are the main agricultural products.
