Scholars and literati who come to Canglang Pavilion in Suzhou today often inquire about the former residence of Shen, the author of Six Chapters of a Floating Life. However, just like Lin Yutang in the 1930s, they came with great joy, but they could only lament the classical waves and beautiful gardens in Canglang Pavilion, Shen's former residence who died young. In fact, Six Chapters of a Floating Life has only four original works, namely, Boudoir, Leisure, Ups and Downs, and Travel Notes on the Waves (the second book, Sun Yat-sen Calendar, Health Care Shaw, supplemented by literati in the late Qing Dynasty, has a terrible flavor), which is the autobiography of Shen, a small businessman from Qianlong to Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty. Although this gentleman is a businessman, his popularity is not high, but because his pen is full of sentimental feelings, he presents a series of spiritual talents in words, and everything he has experienced is very painful, which makes people unable to let go after reading it. In particular, the author wrote about his beloved wife Yunniang, who fell in love with him for more than ten years, until the situation where you will go and the tragic sun and moon that captured your soul are still in sight. The beauty of a young girl is also memorable. I remember Lin Yutang, the same gentleman. After translating Six Chapters of a Floating Life into English, he said to his friends with emotion: Shen's wife Yunniang is the most ideal woman in the world, and it is a great honor to marry her.
Today, Suzhou people are even more proud of the beautiful scenery of Suzhou described by Shen in Six Chapters of a Floating Life.
