Talking about Discoloration of Nodules —— Talking about Pulmonary Nodules
With the popularization of chest examination, many people have been diagnosed with pulmonary nodules. Followed by anxiety, nervousness, and even being advised to operate.

What is a pulmonary nodule?

Pulmonary nodules refer to all kinds of isolated proliferative tumors of the lung found in images.

Pulmonary nodules are common and difficult to diagnose in thoracic surgery. Its diagnosis and treatment has always been a clinical difficulty and a hot topic of discussion. Its etiology is complex, its clinical manifestations lack specificity, its diagnosis is difficult, and it is easy to be misdiagnosed and missed.

Case 1:

The 62-year-old anonymous usually pays great attention to health. Last year, physical examination found that there were many small nodules in both lungs, the largest of which was about 3.5mm, with clear boundary and smooth surface.

In addition, he has no bad habits such as smoking and drinking, so the possibility of malignant tumor is extremely small. The physical examination doctor advised him not to be nervous, just have a regular check-up.

Case 2:

A 55-year-old man, who likes smoking at ordinary times, was admitted to the hospital for examination due to cough, expectoration and sore throat. The CT report shows that "the right lung nodule is ground glass shadow with a diameter of about 15mm".

Cancer screening, tumor markers and PET CT were performed after hospitalization. Thoracoscopic surgery was performed one month later, and the postoperative pathology was adenocarcinoma in situ.

No chemotherapy or radiotherapy was performed after operation. Follow-up for 2 years showed no recurrence.

With the popularization of CT examination, it is found that pulmonary nodules are multiple diseases. After discovering pulmonary nodules, most people will go online to inquire about the relevant situation and treatment suggestions. These people will be anxious, panic and afraid because of their fear of cancer. Even symptoms such as chest tightness and shortness of breath are considered to be caused by nodules.

There are two kinds of pulmonary nodules, one is benign, such as inflammatory nodules, hemangioma, and even lymph nodes and blood vessels. The other is the early stage of malignant tumors, such as adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

So how to distinguish these two kinds of nodules?

The identification method mainly depends on the size of the nodule.

If there is ground glass and burr, it is highly considered as a tumor.

General suggestion: thoracoscopic surgery is usually used for nodules with the size of10 ~15 mm. This kind of tumor is usually an early cancer in situ, which can be cured after surgery, has no impact on life, and does not need postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Out of fear for the survival of individual life, some people will have chest tightness, asthma, palpitation and other symptoms after discovering nodules, which will be considered as caused by nodules.

In fact, small nodules do not cause any symptoms, and these symptoms all stem from people's fear. This panic state is actually more harmful to people than the nodule itself.

If the examination finds small nodules in the lungs, don't worry at first, it is not necessarily cancer; Even if it is a tumor, the cancer in situ within 15mm will not be harmful to life after operation as long as it is treated in time and properly. Moreover, nodules smaller than 10mm in the early stage will not develop too fast, not small today, but will grow to a fatal size tomorrow. Therefore, if nodules are found, we should treat them scientifically and optimistically, and don't be overly panicked and anxious.
