Bao Puzi is a Taoist classic edited by Ge Hong in Jin Dynasty. There are 8 volumes inside and outside Bao Puzi, and 20 articles inside discuss the art of encouraging immortals to call for seals; 50 foreign articles discuss the gains and losses of current politics, with obscure personnel, well-defined words and well-founded names. Bao Puzi, centering on the health preservation of immortals, systematizes and theorizes Taoist beliefs and combines them with Confucian classics. It holds that Taoism should be based on Confucian faith, propriety and righteousness, and emphasizes that Taoism is superior to Confucianism and Taoism, thus developing Taoist thought and theory.
Ge Hong, whose real name is Zhichuan, is Bao Puzi, known as Xiao Xianweng in the world and Jurong in Danyang. Taoists, Taoists, alchemists, doctors and scientists in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Life of Characters in Ge Hong's Works
Ge Hong was born in Jiangnan, the nephew of Ge Xuan, the alchemist of the Three Kingdoms. When I was a child, my family gradually became poor, and I got income from cutting wood for paper and pens. After work, I copy books and study, often until late at night. So the villagers called him a gardener, so he took the name of "Baoyuan". Introverted, not good at making friends, only reading behind closed doors, covering a wide range. Master Ge Xuan studied Taoism from alchemist Zuo Ci and passed it on to disciple Andrew with alchemy.
Ge Hong became a teacher with Zheng at the age of 16. Because he devoted himself to his studies, he was highly valued by Andrew. Andrew's immortal thought and recluse thought had a great influence on Ge Hong's life. Since then, he intends to retire from the mountains, study alchemy, and write books. In the first year of Jin Yongxing, Ge Hong joined the army of Xing Wu satrap Gu Mi and became the captain of a general. He was named "General Fu Bo" because he actively fought against the peasant rebels in Shibing. The following year, he resigned and went to Luoyang to look for a book on alchemy and pharmacy. However, due to the rebellion in Jiangdong, his return trip was cut off, and he was stranded between Xu, Yu, Jing, Xiang, Jiang and Guangzhou.
