Are almonds still divided into north and south? How to distinguish?
Almond can be divided into sweet almond and bitter almond.

South almond, also known as sweet almond, is not used as medicine and is often made into popular snacks. Because it is rich in vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids, it can moisten the lungs and relieve asthma, promote fluid production and stimulate appetite, and moisten the large intestine. Therefore, if patients with lung disease, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia can eat it for a long time, it will be of great benefit to their health.

North almond, also known as bitter almond, can resolve phlegm, relieve cough and moisten intestines. Hydrocyanic acid plays a key pharmacological role in almonds, which can calm the respiratory nerve center, relieve cough and asthma, but excessive bitter almonds can cause poisoning symptoms. Mild symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain, burning sensation in the upper abdomen, elevated blood pressure and rapid breathing. Severe symptoms include shallow breathing, obvious deceleration, coma, rigidity, paroxysmal spasm, dilated pupils, decreased blood pressure, and even death due to respiratory or circulatory failure. Because bitter almond contains amygdalin, it forms hydrocyanic acid after hydrolysis, which causes human poisoning. Therefore, if it is not necessary, it should not be soaked or cooked as a daily necessities.
