1953, the screenwriter Shen went to the navy to experience life and served as the deputy political commissar on a warship. Based on the material of the Kuomintang navy Changzhi Uprising, Shen created the script of the film Soul of the Sea. Halfway through the writing, he encountered a difficulty. Shen is not familiar with the life of soldiers on Kuomintang warships and can't show it vividly.
