Nutrition and diet therapy
● Eat less and eat more.
It is best for patients with hypoglycemia to eat a few meals and eat about 6 ~ 8 meals a day. Eating a small amount of snacks and snacks before going to bed will also help. In addition, we should alternate food types and don't eat certain foods often, because allergies are often related to hypoglycemia. Food allergy will aggravate the condition and make the symptoms more complicated.
● Balanced diet
The diet should be balanced, containing at least 50-60% carbohydrates (the same as that of diabetics), including vegetables, brown rice (brown rice refers to the product with the shell removed and other parts retained), avocados, konjac, seeds, drupes, cereals, lean meat, fish, yogurt and raw cheese.
● Foods that should be restricted.
Strictly limit the intake of monosaccharides, and try to eat less refined processed products (such as instant rice and potatoes), white flour, soda, wine and salt. Avoid fruits and juices with high sugar content (such as grape juice mixed with 50% water). Also eat less macaroni, noodles, gravy, white rice, cornflakes and sweet potatoes. Beans and potatoes can be eaten twice a week.
How should hypoglycemia eat healthily at ordinary times?
Yu Kang, deputy chief physician of the Nutrition Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said that slow-absorbing foods such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, beans and meat are conducive to the stability of blood sugar.
After autumn, the nights are long and the days are short. Due to the lack of timely energy supplement, hypoglycemia is prone to occur at night. Diet plays a great role in regulating blood sugar. Then, once hypoglycemia occurs, how can diet relieve symptoms and how to prevent it at ordinary times?
What is a "hypoglycemia reaction"
Clinically, the symptoms caused by the drop of blood sugar level too low or too fast are called "hypoglycemia reaction", which usually occurs in diabetic patients. The symptoms of "hypoglycemia reaction" are generally dizziness, headache, palpitation, shaking hands, hunger, sweating, pallor or irritability, general fatigue and so on. In severe cases, coma may occur. If blood sugar does not rise in time, it will damage people's heart, brain, kidney and other major organs and endanger their lives.
In terms of diet, the causes of hypoglycemia are mainly related to insufficient energy intake caused by eating too little, not eating on time, exercising on an empty stomach and drinking on an empty stomach. When diabetic patients have certain gastrointestinal problems, they can't digest and absorb them in time after eating, which will also lead to hypoglycemia.
Adjust diet according to symptoms
Once hypoglycemia occurs, the most effective emergency measure is of course to eat "sugar" immediately to quickly raise blood sugar levels. You can drink drinks (sprite, cola, juice, etc. ), sugar water (warm boiled water with sugar or glucose 25g-50g), candy or oral glucose tablets, honey, jam, etc.
Daily prevention is the most important.
Eating on time, drinking or eating foods containing complex carbohydrates before exercise, such as biscuits and bread, and avoiding fasting are the daily preventive measures for hypoglycemia that most people are familiar with.
It should be noted that, unlike foods eaten after hypoglycemia, it is best not to eat digestible carbohydrates or foods with more sugar in daily prevention. This kind of food is absorbed quickly, which will lead to a rapid drop in blood sugar after a period of time, resulting in a drop in blood sugar in the human body.
We should eat more beans, meat and fish such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, peas and broad beans, which can be absorbed slowly to keep blood sugar stable.
Mild hypoglycemia
You may have the following symptoms: trembling, trembling, palpitation, nervousness, sweating, chills and dampness, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, dizziness and extreme hunger. These are all caused by the influence on the autonomic nervous system. Mild hypoglycemia often doesn't affect your brain, so you should be able to recognize this symptom and treat yourself.
Moderate hypoglycemia
If you have moderate hypoglycemia, you will have autonomic nervous symptoms and recognizable symptoms caused by the influence on the brain. In addition to the symptoms listed above, you will also have headaches, mood changes, irritability, drowsiness, blurred vision, nightmares, nausea, tingling or numbness of lips and tongue, blurred consciousness and decreased attention.
Severe hypoglycemia
If we don't pay attention to the warning signal of hypoglycemia, then severe hypoglycemia will occur. If your brain has low blood sugar for a long time, you may be slow to respond, twitch, or lose consciousness. This is an emergency that needs immediate medical attention.
If you suspect hypoglycemia, you should test your blood sugar level immediately. You should tell your medical staff the blood sugar level that should be treated. If you can't measure your blood sugar, but you realize some symptoms, don't wait until you can measure your blood sugar, but treat it in time. Never wait to get home, especially when driving.
