Why are there so few people in Manjiang?
Contemporary people lack the pattern of all rivers running into the sea. Confucius said, "Stay away from ghosts and gods." It means to be afraid of ghosts and stay away from them. We should know that Confucius has no religious belief, but no religious belief does not mean that Confucius denies the existence of ghosts and gods. Confucius has a neutral attitude towards ghosts and gods. He doesn't believe in himself and stays away silently, but he doesn't deny it or stop others from believing it. This attitude is Confucius' "respect" and a core view of Confucianism. In other words, in the face of things we are not familiar with, do not understand or even recognize, we can maintain an accepting and tolerant heart. In fact, this attitude is very lacking in contemporary society. Why do you say that? Take the issue of faith as an example. Everyone has his own beliefs. Some people believe in Buddhism, some believe in religion, and some only believe in science. There are all kinds of beliefs. Faith is our own business and has nothing to do with others, but we often find that people always like to engage in some "faith attacks." The most typical example is to criticize religious theory from a scientific perspective. For example, many people refer to Buddhism as superstition. This is a very irresponsible statement. If you want to criticize Buddhism, you must personally study Buddhism and practice and verify the methods of Buddhist meditation in detail. If you think there is something wrong after learning these things, then you are qualified to criticize. It is typical disrespect to list the whole Buddhism as superstition just by watching others do some religious ceremonies in the Hall of the Great Hero. For example, in sports, there are many kinds of sports, such as weightlifting, bodybuilding, fitness, functional training, ball games, swimming, martial arts, qigong and so on. Each family has its own set of theories, and as a result, we will find that everyone despises each other. "Too much exercise hurts the body", "too much weight hurts the joints" and "insufficient heart rate has no exercise effect". There are some differences in the purpose of various sports. Bodybuilding pursues the latitude and shape of muscles, weightlifting pursues absolute strength, and qigong pursues health preservation. Criticizing Qigong from the perspective of boosting strength is naturally problematic. This is also a lack of "respect" attitude, and there is no minimum respect for what you don't know. In fact, whether it is learning, religion, ghosts and gods or science, their essence has its fixed category, which is reasonable in their respective categories, but there may be conflicts and differences between them. People often ignore the concept of category and blindly believe in their own views, so that when other people's views conflict with our own familiar categories, we often think it is wrong, oppose it and even insult it. This is a mistake of "disrespect". This is actually very common in our daily life, but most of us don't pay much attention to it, because we often think that people should have their own independent views, otherwise they will be like rotten wood. But in fact, "respect" is not to let you give up your independent point of view, but to have a pattern of all rivers. Have an independent self and an inclusive mind. This is very important to our life.
