Shenyang, the capital of the Qing Dynasty, was named Shengjing, which lasted for nearly 300 years.
"Shengjing (now Shenyang), the capital of the Qing Dynasty, has experienced more than 270 years from 1636 to 1907." On March 28th, the reporter learned at the opening report meeting of "Shengjing Urban Archaeology and Historical and Cultural Research in Qing Dynasty" co-sponsored by Shenyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Institute of Qing History of China Renmin University that the topic of "Shengjing Urban Archaeology" has been officially approved by the National Social Science Fund.

Jiang Wanli, director of the Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, told the reporter that Shengjing, as the founding capital and the only accompanying capital of the Qing Dynasty, began in the sixth year of the late Jin Dynasty (162 1) when Nurhachi captured Shenyang Zhongwei City, and was later changed to the capital by Nurhachi and Huang Taiji. The title of Shengjing disappeared in the thirtieth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1907). However, there are few historical documents about Shengjing Capital, especially in the early Qing Dynasty. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out in-depth research with the help of archaeological excavation data.

The archaeology of Shengjing can be traced back to the excavation of Qingming Tomb of Shandong Temple in Shenhe District in 1966. Since then, a series of important discoveries have been made, such as the West Tower Underground Palace, Zhongjie Ming and Qing ruins, Khan Palace, Yuqin Wangfu, Drum Tower Bell Tower and so on. As a result, Shenyang has also become an ancient city with the richest archaeological achievements and the greatest influence in Beijing besides Beijing archaeology.
