Five methods to promote germination of melon seeds
Five methods to accelerate germination of melon seeds: soaking in warm water, sanding with sandpaper, fire disinfection, rooting agent to accelerate germination and hot washing with sulfuric acid.

1, warm water immersion method

Soaking melon seeds in warm water for 6- 12 hours, and then taking them out to dry, can effectively soften the seed coat and accelerate the water absorption and germination of seeds. The temperature is generally controlled at 20-30℃

2. Sandpaper grinding method

Gently cut the seed coat of melon seeds or rub it with fine sandpaper, scrape the seed coat, and then sow. This can increase the water absorption of seeds and accelerate germination. However, it should be handled with care so as not to damage the endosperm contained in the seeds.

3, fire disinfection method

Bake melon seeds on fire for 3-5 seconds, then immediately soak them in cold water for 6- 12 hours, and then sow. This method can not only slightly damage the seed coat, but also disinfect the seeds, which is beneficial to improve the germination rate and accelerate the germination.

4. Rooting element promotes germination

Soak melon seeds in 0.5% peracetic acid rooting solution for 6- 12 hours, and then take them out for sowing. Rooting element can promote the synthesis of endogenous hormones and nutrients in seeds, thus stimulating seed germination.

5, sulfuric acid hot washing method

Wash melon seeds with dilute sulfuric acid (10%) at 60℃ for 2-3 minutes, then rinse them with clear water immediately, and sow them 24 hours later. Sulfuric acid can dissolve the seed coat, enhance the water absorption of seeds and accelerate germination. The washing time and temperature should be controlled accurately, otherwise the seeds will be damaged.
