How to interplant ginger and onion?
Based on the successful experience of interplanting ginger and onion with vegetables in Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province, the author made some improvements in combination with the climatic conditions in Shandong Province, and achieved good results. The specific method is: sowing onions before and after the Millennium, ridging and transplanting when the frost reaches beginning of winter, the row spacing is 50-55cm, the ridge height is 10-15cm, the ridge top width is 20-25cm, and two rows are planted in each ridge, and the row spacing is10cm. In the second year, ginger is planted in the onion ditch in the first half of April (film mulching) or the first half of May (open field) (Figure 8-4).

Onions are harvested in the middle and late June, when ginger has emerged. Attention should be paid to prevent damage to Jiang Miao. After the onion is harvested, plant grass in the south (east-west direction) or west (north-south direction) of the ginger ditch for shade or cover the ditch with black plastic film for cooling and moisturizing.

The growth period from sowing ginger to harvesting onion is about 30 days, and it only takes 10 ~ 20 days from the emergence of ginger to harvesting onion. In the growing period of two crops, onion can shade ginger, improve the surrounding environment of ginger, promote the emergence of ginger, and create favorable conditions for the vigorous growth of raw ginger at seedling stage. At the same time, the basic fertilizer and bottom water applied during ginger sowing supplemented nutrients and water for the enrichment of onion bulbs in the later stage. According to the field investigation, the yield of ginger and onion is about 2000 kg per 667 meters, and the yield of onion is 2000 ~ 2500 kg.
