According to statistics, 45.2%, 65.7% and 27.3% of people feel uneasy from their minds, bodies and legs respectively.
It is often difficult for patients to describe akathisia, such as "screaming inside" or "feeling about to explode". Aggressive manic behavior, vague physical discomfort, fear, trembling, sexual torture and suicide are all possible manifestations of akathisia. Patients tend to exaggerate some symptoms, especially among young, hostile and paranoid patients, who often try to control their bodies through violence. Mild akathisia should be differentiated from mental illness, and the latter can find clues to diagnose mental illness through psychological analysis.

Patients with mild akathisia can tolerate subjective discomfort without motor symptoms. Most patients have a series of sports performances, including: purposeful leg or foot movements, repeated exchange of standing legs or immobility when standing. More serious symptoms include being unable to sit or stand, or even lying quietly for a while. Patients may keep going up and down stairs or running fast (walking addiction). Early scholars called these extreme situations "paroxysmal behavioral responses". These movements are rough and uninterrupted shaking, or the frequency is less than 4Hz, and they are rhythmic and large, similar to the extrapyramidal disease myoclonic.
It has been found that when the patient is sitting, the purposeful movement of hands or arms is common in mental patients, but rare in patients with akathisia's disease. For example, typical restless and depressed patients have restless hands. Akathisia's hand movements include simple shaking, twisting and repeatedly hitting his forehead.
