1, land selection

Onion has strong adaptability and can grow normally in almost all soils, but the nutrient absorption capacity of onion root system is not strong. Therefore, when planting onions, we should choose fertile and loose soil to promote the growth and development of roots. The soil's ability to retain fertilizer and water and its permeability should not be too bad. Moreover, the growth of onions needs a lot of light, so choose areas with sufficient light.

2. Soil preparation

After selecting onion to plant soil, it is necessary to carry out intertillage and soil preparation. The degree of soil preparation should be determined according to the water and fertilizer situation and permeability of onion planting soil. After soil preparation, loosen the soil and expose it to the sun for 5-7 days to eliminate germs and parasites in the soil. Soil preparation is usually carried out together with the application of base fertilizer, in order to improve soil fertility and promote the growth of onion seedlings.

3. Base fertilizer

As mentioned earlier, base fertilizer should be applied together with soil preparation, and the application amount of base fertilizer should be determined according to the area of soil. The base fertilizer can be completely decomposed farmyard manure, but an appropriate amount of elements such as phosphorus, potassium and calcium should be added. When applying base fertilizer, mix base fertilizer and soil evenly. After the onion seedlings are unearthed, topdressing nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in time to improve the growth rate of the seedlings.

Step 4: Sowing.

Proper sowing date is the key to ensure the normal growth of seedlings. Improper sowing date will hinder the growth of onion and affect the yield and quality of onion. Sowing time in the south can be selected in mid-September. According to the emergence of onion in the past, sowing should be controlled reasonably, and replanting should be checked in time after emergence. After sowing, cover 0.7- 1 cm nutrient soil to ensure that the dug seedlings are neat.

Step 5 plant

Almost 80% of the seedlings can be transplanted and planted when they are unearthed, but the condition of the seedlings should be checked when planting. Filter out some weak, overgrown and vigorous seedlings. Seedlings with well-developed roots and evenly distributed growth should be planted well. According to the growth of onion seedlings, the seedlings with the same specifications are planted together, which is convenient for later management and can also ensure the growth of seedlings.

Step 6 manage

After planting seedlings, we should pay attention to management, prevent downy mildew, Fusarium wilt and other germs, and do a good job in disease prevention and control. Because the planting time of onion is mostly in autumn, when the temperature is low, it is not easy to water too much after planting, otherwise the surface temperature is too low, and the growth rate of onion seedlings will be reduced. But it also needs a certain amount of water, so it is necessary to control the amount of watering during the growth of seedlings to ensure that it will not affect the growth of seedlings but can provide the water needed for growth.
