Does the stepfather have the obligation to support?
Legal analysis: There are two kinds of legal relations between step-parents and step-children.

1, forming a relationship of upbringing and education.

Mainly because after the biological father or mother, the minor stepchildren are raised and educated in whole or in part by the stepfather or stepmother. In this case, the relationship between stepparents and stepchildren is equivalent to the legal relationship between biological parents and children. There is a corresponding mutual inheritance relationship between them. Stepchildren also have corresponding obligations to support stepparents.

2. Education has nothing to do with upbringing.

It is mainly because after the biological father or mother remarries, the stepchildren have grown up and lived independently, or the biological parents have fully assumed the obligation of raising and educating, or the stepchildren have not followed the remarried biological parents, such as living with grandparents. At this time, there is no dependency relationship between stepparents and stepchildren, but only a nominal parent-child relationship, so there is no legal parent-child relationship. There is no corresponding mutual inheritance relationship between the two.

Legal basis: Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC).

Article 1067 If parents fail to perform their maintenance obligations, minor children or adult children who cannot live independently shall have the right to ask their parents to pay alimony. Parents who fail to perform their maintenance obligations, lack the ability to work or have difficulties in living have the right to claim alimony from their adult children.

Article 1072 Stepparents and stepchildren shall not be abused or discriminated against. The provisions of this law on the relationship between parents and children shall apply to the rights and obligations between stepfathers or stepmothers and their stepchildren.
