However, under the influence of western modernization, Tongrentang's original traditional Chinese medicine processing technology and pharmaceutical characteristics are facing the dilemma of survival and development, the traditional pharmaceutical methods are bound, and the unique technology is at risk of being lost. Tongrentang has made unremitting efforts to protect this excellent traditional culture, which needs to be respected and protected by the whole society.
The state attaches great importance to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. On May 20th, 2006, Tongrentang traditional Chinese medicine culture was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. On June 5, 2007, Lu Guangrong, Guan Guan and Tian Ruihua of Beijing Tongrentang (Group) Co., Ltd. were identified as the representative inheritors of this cultural heritage project by the Ministry of Culture and included in the list of 226 representative inheritors of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage projects.
