Why didn't Qiongzhou Strait build a subsea tunnel?
In view of the length of Qiongzhou Strait Tunnel, it is inevitable to adopt railway tunnel. The reason is that once the cross-harbour tunnel exceeds 20 kilometers, internal ventilation, pumping, fire prevention and traffic accident prevention are all big problems, especially the ventilation is difficult.

If a large number of cars enter the tunnel by themselves, the internal combustion engine of the car will absorb the burning oxygen and discharge a large amount of exhaust gas, which will lead to insufficient oxygen supply inside the tunnel, which will lead to the flameout of the car due to lack of oxygen and even make it difficult for people to breathe. Moreover, a large number of cars pass by every day. Once several of them break down or have a traffic accident, the whole tunnel will be blocked in an instant.

What is even more frightening is that there is a fire in the tunnel. If a large number of cars and people are gathered in a tunnel tens of kilometers long, once a fire breaks out, the consequences will be unimaginable.

Qiongzhou Strait Railway Passage

The construction of the Guangdong-Hainan railway corridor started on 1998, with a total investment of 4.5 billion yuan. On June 7, 2003, the 65438+ Guangdong-Hainan Railway Passage Ferry was opened. The passage consists of Zhanhai Line, Qiongzhou Strait Railway Ferry and Hainan West Ring Road, with a total length of 345 kilometers. It is the first railway across the Strait in China.

Zhanhai Line runs from Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province to Hai 'an, with a total length of 139 km and a designed annual freight volume of 1 1 10,000 tons. In June 2002, eight pairs of buses were officially opened to traffic. Qiongzhou Strait Railway Ferry includes cross-sea train ferry, Guangdong-Hainan Railway North Port and South Port, Haikou Station, Haikou South Station and some station lines. Among them, the train ferry has a sea voyage of 22.5 kilometers (across Qiongzhou Strait), and can carry 40 trucks (or buses 18), 50 cars and passengers 1360 people at the same time, with a water voyage time of 50 minutes.

The total length of Hainan West Ring Railway is 182.5km, connecting the south port of Guangdong-Hainan Railway in the north, the Chahe Station of the Yangtze River in the west, and connecting with the existing Chahe-Sanya line. The designed annual freight volume is100000 tons, with 9 pairs of buses.
