Confucius was a great thinker, politician, educator and founder of Confucianism in ancient China. Confucius and Confucianism are the mainstream of traditional culture in China, which have made indelible contributions to the development of the Chinese nation and the progress of human civilization, and their essence is still shining. Confucius' thoughts and theories have already transcended the limitations of the times and national boundaries, and become an important legacy in the treasure house of world history and culture, which has had a wide and far-reaching influence in the world, especially in Southeast Asia. World Nobel Prize winners once gathered in Paris and declared: "If human beings want to survive in the 2 1 century, they must seek wisdom from Confucius 2,500 years ago." Confucius was praised by the international community as "the first of the top ten ancient thinkers in the world" and was deeply admired and respected by people. In order to "absorb the essence of Confucius' thoughts and carry forward the excellent national culture", the State Council approved the establishment of Confucius Institute in Qufu, the hometown of Confucius, in September 2006 with the official letter [1996] No.66.

The Confucius Institute project was planned and designed by Mr. Wu, an academician of China Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering and a professor of Tsinghua University. The composition of the overall layout takes squares and circles as the basic motifs, fully expresses the cultural connotation of China by metaphor, integrates the Confucian concept of benevolence into the planning, and draws lessons from the format of Luo Shu, He Tu, Jiugong and Feng Shui theory to make the existing plots ingenious and reasonable. The architectural form fully expresses the cultural and ideological connotation of Confucius, and embodies the nationality, times and commemoration.

The Confucius Institute has a planned area of 9.5 hectares and a building area of 26,000 square meters, with a total investment of 654.38+0.9 billion yuan, which will be completed in three phases. The investment of the first phase project is 65.438+0.2 billion yuan, and the construction area is 65.438+0.46 million square meters. The second phase of the project has an investment of 27.58 million yuan and a construction area of 5,400 square meters, mainly including the construction of an academic lecture hall and a research center. The project started construction in April 2006 and was completed in September 2007. The construction content mainly includes the construction of scientific research teaching building, postgraduate room and other ancillary facilities.
