A holy bodhi tree in Anula Depreux was planted in 288 BC. It is said that it originated from the bodhi tree where Sakyamuni realized enlightenment below. It is the oldest artificially planted angiosperm with a definite age.
Bodhi tree was called Biboro tree in ancient India, and it is a very common tree in India, just like poplar, willow, tung tree and pagoda tree in China. At that time, the young Prince Siddhartha became a Buddha after six years of asceticism, sitting under an ordinary Biro tree. Eventually, he became a great leader and saint of the Sakyamuni family and was honored as Sakyamuni by later generations. In order to appreciate the immortal merit of Buddha's awakening to the truth of life, people call the Biboro tree that gave him shelter when he realized the truth, that is, the enlightenment tree.
In fact, all mountains and rivers have Buddha nature, and the truth is implied in ordinary natural things. "Bodhi" is not "Bodhi", not a tree, not a tree, but whether you have bodhicitta. If bodhicitta exists, all trees are bodhi trees. On the other hand, it is useless to be superstitious about external things, even if you are sitting under a bodhi tree.
