Did the "Putuo Buddha's Light" recorded in historical materials ever make the Japanese aggressors flee in haste?
Putuo Mountain is located in Zhoushan Islands, Zhejiang Province, and the local administration still keeps records about this matter, so this matter is well documented and true. It happened in July of 1944. At that time, nearly 8,000 Japanese troops landed near Mount Putuo. They settled on the beach, destroyed local historical sites and plundered residents. It was not until one night that they saw the Buddha's light appear in the sky that they fled in panic.

According to the historical records in the Putuo Mountain Administration, at that time, the Japanese army wantonly destroyed Putuo Mountain, a Buddhist holy place, which made the people on the island miserable. The common people couldn't stand the harassment of the Japanese army and fled to other places. One night, lights suddenly appeared on the lotus ocean in the distance. The Japanese army thought it was attacked by the US military, and hurriedly scanned it with searchlights, but found no trace of the US military.

Soon, more and more lights appeared on the sea, covering the whole sea. The panicked Japanese army fired at the sea, but it didn't work. The lights slowly approached the shore with the waves on the sea, and the Japanese army suddenly became afraid. After all, there are many Japanese soldiers who believe in Buddhism. They thought they had offended Guanyin, knelt down in fear and asked the Bodhisattva for forgiveness, and then left Putuo Mountain in a hurry. This incident is also widely circulated in Putuo, and local people think that Guanyin has appeared.

So how did these Putuo holy lights scare the Japanese away? In fact, there are many plankton that can emit high-intensity fluorescence in Zhoushan waters around Putuo Mountain. They are all over the lotus sea. These creatures contain a lot of phosphorus, which will gather in groups at night, emit bright fluorescence, flicker on the sea surface, and form a strange Buddha light.
