In the forty-ninth year of Qianlong (A.D. 1784), Emperor Qianlong toured Jiangnan, and Shen Fu followed his father to meet him. Later, he came to Suzhou to engage in wine industry. He has a very good relationship with his wife, Chen Yun. Due to family changes, the husband and wife have been living in other places and have experienced ups and downs. After his wife died, he went to Sichuan as a staff member. The situation is unknown since then. Shen Fu is neither a scholar nor a scholar. Now that I have escaped from the second kind, I still remember the joy of the boudoir in the book and see the harmony and affection of the harp and harp; Remember to be elegant and look at the minds of the poor, likes and dislikes; Remember the ups and downs of life and see the difficulties and human feelings of separation; Remember to look around and see the sights and interesting stories. Lin Yutang, a master of modern Chinese literature, once translated Six Chapters of a Floating Life into English and introduced it to the United States, which was also praised by famous artists such as Yu Pingbo.

In the 13th year of Jiaqing (AD 1808), he wrote the autobiographical novel Six Chapters of a Floating Life.

Six Chapters of a Floating Life consists of six volumes, each of which has a small topic, followed by boudoir, leisure, sorrow, wandering travels, Sun Yat-sen's calendar, and health care. The first four records have been preserved to this day. The author described his experience for most of his life in a simple style, and the joy and sadness matched each other, which was really touching. The book describes that he and his wife, Chen Yun, are congenial and have deep feelings. They are willing to live a carefree life and engage in art. Due to the oppression of feudal ethics and the suffering of poor life, their ideals are finally shattered and they have experienced the pain of where you will go. Following Li Qingzhao's Preface to the Records of the Stone in the Song Dynasty and Gui Youguang's Ling Xuan Zhi in the Ming Dynasty, the author described the family life of the couple at a long length in Six Chapters of a Floating Life, which is really rare in China's ancient literature. The book has unique comments on landscape gardens, diet and daily life.

During Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, Yang Yinchuan got the manuscript of this book in a cold stall in Suzhou, and the last two books were lost. In the twenty-ninth year of Daoguang (1849), Wang Tao wrote an afterword for it, praising the book "between pen and ink, touching and infatuated". In the third year of Guangxu (1877), Yang Yinchuan was handed over to the Shanghai Customs Office for printing, and it has been 70 years since. The Beautifying Masterpieces Series published by World Bookstore 1935 includes Six Chapters of a Floating Life, and both supplements are forgeries.

synopsis

Six Chapters of a Floating Life focuses on the life of the author and his wife, which is better than what they saw and heard in A Wandering World. It is an ordinary and interesting family life. The work describes that the author and his wife, Chen Yun, are congenial and want to live a life of food, clothing, housing and art. Due to the oppression of feudal ethics and the suffering of poor life, their ideals are finally shattered. The text of this book is fresh and true, with no traces of carving and modification, and the plot is affectionate to death; It begins with joy, ends with worry, and gradually drifts away, making people sad and moving. In addition, this book also includes a famous work "Memories of Mei Ying 'an" by a famous person in Qing Dynasty who took the initiative to mourn Dong Xiaowan, a famous prostitute in Qinhuai.

Wen Zunge's block-printed Six Chapters of a Floating Life is the earliest existing block-printed book in China, with Yang's life introduction and Wang Tao's inscription and postscript. In the preface to Yang Yinchuan, it is said that "six records are short of two". Wang Tao once said that he read this book when he was young (A.D. 1847 years ago), but unfortunately he didn't copy it. He often missed it during his exile in Hong Kong. 1849 Wang Tao didn't say that he had read the whole book when he was young.

From 65438 to 0936, Lin Yutang translated four chapters of Six Chapters of a Floating Life into English and serialized them in Tianxia Monthly. Later, he published a bilingual booklet with a long preface. Lin Yutang wrote in the preface: "Yun, in my opinion, is the most lovely woman in China literature." I also guess that "there must be a complete book in Suzhou's family collection or second-hand bookstore."

Soon after, a complete manuscript appeared in a cold stall in Suzhou, with five volumes and six volumes, which was actually forged for future generations.

Yu Pingbo wrote Six Chapters of a Floating Life on the basis of the first four chapters of Six Chapters of a Floating Life.

[Edit this paragraph] ★ Shen Fu and his wife Chen Yun

Chen Yun, the cousin of Shenfu, grew up in Shenfu in October. They are young and have no guesses. Yun was born smart, and after embroidery, he gradually became familiar with singing. Shen Fu thought of her talent and got married as soon as possible. And the dragon, laughing side by side in the dusk of flowers and candles, suddenly reunited with close friends. Since then, we have been intimate, and it is always elegant and ridiculous to talk about literary criticism and poetry. They have been playing the piano for twenty-three years, and the longer they play, the closer they get. Within the family, their peers sit together. At first they will avoid others, but after a long time, they will be indifferent.

On Tanabata, Shen copied the seal of "May the couple last forever". Shen Fu wrote to Zhu Wen and Chen Yun wrote to Bai Wen. They also ask people to paint old people under the moon and often burn incense and pray so that they can get married in the afterlife. Chen Yun didn't cherish jewelry very much, but he did cherish it in his broken books and paintings. Yun tasted Shen Fu's clothes, traveled with her husband, and they met. Later, Yun broke up with her in-laws, and the couple were expelled from their homes several times. They are infatuated with each other and have no complaints. The affection between them deepened, but Yun finally died of frequent blood diseases. Because of poverty, Yun refused to seek medical treatment until he died, and only cared about fate and the afterlife when he died. Non-success is dead, but Shen Fu's feelings for her are endless. The deeds of Shen Fu and Chen Yun are described in detail in Shen Fu's autobiography Six Chapters of a Floating Life.

Shen Fu and his wife were not allowed by the family. Of course, there were some factors such as fighting for property within the family, villains fiddling with right and wrong, deliberately framing, etc., but the most essential reason was that their frank personality style conflicted with feudal ethics. From the perspective of parents and tradition, Shen Fu is the black sheep who doesn't think about studying, and Chen Yun is a bad wife. Despite all kinds of changes, Shen Fu never repented for his conduct. He is confident that loving Chen Yun is the duty of husband and wife, and his talent is beyond reproach, so he dares to open his heart and be honest with each other. He may not be a great man, but he is definitely a strange man.

Shen Fu's article "Remember the Fun of Childhood" (also known as Tong Qu) was included in the Chinese textbook of Senior One last semester.

Memories of Childhood Shen Fu (Six Chapters of a Floating Life-Memories of Leisure) Volume II

When I was a child, I could open my eyes to the sun and observe autumn in detail. When I see a little thing, I have to check its texture carefully, so I find pleasure outside things.

In summer, mosquitoes turn thunder, and privately plan to let a group of cranes dance in the air. If you want it, you will have a thousand, and if you want it, you will have a crane. Look up, Xiang Qiang. Mosquitoes stay in the tent and smoke, making them fly towards the smoke, making them look like white cranes in Qingyun, like cranes in the clouds, and happy.

I often crouch in the concave and convex parts of the earth wall, in the grass of the flower bed, so that I can be flush with the platform; If you look closely, you can feel at ease when you wander around with bushes as forests, insects and ants as beasts, convex soil and gravel as hills and concave soil as valleys.

One day, I saw two insects fighting in the grass. When I watched it, it was in full swing. Suddenly, a monster came down from the mountain and fell from the tree, covering a frog. My tongue spit out and both worms swallowed it. I was young and lost in thought, but I was surprised. God decided to catch frogs, whip dozens and drive them out of the hospital.

Translation of The Joy of Childhood

Looking back on my childhood, I can open my eyes to the sun and see all the details. When I see a small thing, I must carefully observe its lines, so I often have fun outside things.

Mosquitoes in summer sound like thunder. I compare them to flocks of cranes flying in the sky. In my heart, hundreds of mosquitoes have become cranes. I looked up and my neck was stiff. I let mosquitoes stay in the curtains, slowly inhale the smoke and let them fly against it, watching it be a white crane in Qingyun. Sure enough, it is like a crane in the cloud, which is refreshing.

I often crouch in the place where the earth wall is uneven, or where there are weeds on the flower bed, so that my body is as high as the flower bed. I observed carefully, treating grass as a forest, insects and ants as wild animals, the places above the soil as hills, and the low places as gullies, and enjoying it.

One day, I saw two bugs fighting in the grass. I was very happy to see them. Suddenly, a big thing pushed the mountain and knocked down a big tree. It turned out to be a frog. As soon as its tongue spit out, the two worms were swallowed by it. I was young and lost in thought, so I cried out in fear. After a pause, he caught the frog, whipped it with wicker dozens of times, and drove it to another yard.
