Is it bad for your knees to climb mountains often?
The human knee joint is the largest of all joints, and it bears the main weight. It consists of the lower femur and the upper tibia. In front of it is the patella, in the middle is the "cushion", that is, the meniscus, surrounded by solid joint capsules, muscles and ligaments to ensure the stability of the joint. The load of knee joint changes greatly with human movement and gait pattern. The static stress of knee joint (foot on the ground) is 0.43 times of body weight, but it can reach 3.02 times of body weight when walking and 4.25 times of body weight when climbing mountains. Although mountain climbing is a good exercise, it is not conducive to protecting the knee joint. Because, when going up the mountain, the weight of the knee joint is basically its own weight, and when going down the mountain, the knee joint bears downward force besides its own weight, so the impact will increase the damage of the knee joint. The friction between patella, meniscus and articular surface is intensified, which is easy to cause injury. When people go up the mountain, 1) quadriceps femoris forcibly contracts, and the articular surface of patella and femur repeatedly rubs and collides, so that the articular surface of patella is damaged and part of it is necrotic and falls off. Over time, "chondromalacia patellae" can be formed, which is difficult to heal. Performance: dull pain in the knee, unable to accurately locate, dare not exert force on the knee when going up the mountain. 2) Repeated movement of quadriceps femoris, frequent relative movement between tendon and bone and tendon, pressure overload of synovial bursa, local temperature increase, inflammation, increased exudate and high tension in bursa, causing pain. The manifestations are: swelling of the corresponding parts, suprapatellar bursa (suprapatellar filling, floating patellar test+); Descending capsule of patella (disappearance of knee eye, pain). Light, less exudation, can be absorbed in a few days after rest. The worst. Excessive exudation, obvious swelling of the whole knee, limited flexion and extension, improper treatment, chronic bursitis, strain attack.
