The beauty picture of dragon and phoenix is an inscription buried with the tomb. The figure in the painting is a portrait of the tomb owner, and there is an auspicious totem accompanying the tomb owner in the painting. The owner of the grave is a lady in a bun. Her robe is very thin, and her long skirt hangs down and opens back and forth. The woman stood sideways, her upper body leaned forward slightly, her hands crossed, and her reverence was beyond words. On the top left of the lady's head, a vigorous and flapping phoenix bird, with its feet bent forward and stretched back, has a great desire to fly. The image of the phoenix bird almost occupies an important visual position in the picture. Yi Long, the front end of the Phoenix, soars into the sky, but it is not as bright as the Phoenix. It is probably about the meaning of Phoenix Dragon and the symbol of Yin and Yang. There is a view that these two things are compared to the battle between true talents and phoenix, and they fled after defeat, so their image is small, and they will be weak if they shrink to one side. The whole painting shows the theme of praying for God's guidance to make the tomb owner's soul ascend to heaven. This painting uses lines as modeling means, clothes are lined with curly moire, cuffs are decorated with diagonal lines, and neckline, waist, back and feet are treated with ink blocks. Brush wire is not smooth and has different thickness. The form is Gu Zhuo and simple, which embodies the characteristics of China's early paintings.

Because the original painting was covered with mud when it was first unearthed, the earliest copy had some distortions, such as the dragon added two horns and lost a foot. Guo Moruo once recognized it as "Kui" according to his early copying. Later, the Hunan Provincial Museum carefully treated the original painting to remove dirt and show its original appearance. The feet on both sides of the dragon body are clearly visible, and the two corners on the faucet of the original copy are indeed added by mistake. In this way, its content and theme have a new interpretation.

The picture of the dragon and phoenix ladies is one of the two earliest silk paintings in existence, and it is a precious material for studying Chu culture in the Warring States period. Compared with the "figure dragon silk painting", the strokes of Longfeng ladies painting are more Gu Zhuo and simple.
