1965 In the winter, in the tomb of Wang Shanchu near Jingzhou, Hubei, a group of archaeologists found a precious bronze sword in a black lacquer wooden box next to the tomb owner. And this close-up side is also engraved with two lines of bird seal inscription, that is, the sword made by Gou Jian, the king of Yue. According to experts' interpretation of the inscription of Eight Birds in Fitness, this sword was used by the legendary Yue King Gou Jian.
The total length of this sword is 55.6 cm, of which the melee length is 45.6 cm and the shoulder width is 5 cm. The body of this sword is covered with dark geometric patterns of black diamonds, and the front and back of the interval are also inlaid with blue glass and turquoise, forming beautiful lines. At the hilt of this sword, the silk thread is wrapped around the neck and rolled outward into a hoop. Its inner column has eleven concentric circles, and the scabbard is closely matched. The drawn sword shone with dazzling cold light. The most amazing thing is that this sword has no rust marks and is still very sharp. So archaeologists took paper to test its wind power, and as a result, more than 20 pieces were broken in one stroke.
This discovery instantly aroused people's curiosity. Why is a sword hidden in the ground for more than two thousand years, still extremely sharp and does not rust? What's this, baby? It is this curiosity that makes many cultural relics workers and folk craftsmen try to uncover the secrets of Gu Jian in the Millennium.
1977, in the electrostatic accelerator laboratory of Fudan University in Shanghai. Some experts have scientifically appraised Gou Jian, the King of Yue. The results show that the main components of this sword are bronze and tin, as well as some elements such as iron and lead. The blade is vulcanized with black diamond pattern, and its technical level can be comparable to that of products produced by modern precision grinder, which fully shows that the sword casting technology of Yue State was superb at that time. In view of the mystery that Gou Jian, the weapon of the King of Yue, did not rust for thousands of years, the Hubei Provincial Museum and the Provincial Institute of Archaeology gave such an answer.
First of all, the tomb unearthed by Gou Jian, the King of Yue, has been immersed in water for a long time underground, and the sword has been completely isolated from oxygen, which is one of the main reasons why it does not rust. Copper itself is an inert metal, which generally does not stink under daily living conditions. In addition, research shows that this sword is also plated with a layer of chromium-containing metal. This metal is a very high temperature resistant metal with a melting point of about 4000 degrees Celsius, which is one of the reasons why it does not rot for thousands of years.
Finally, in the tomb, on the second main canal of Zhanghe River near modern Jingzhou, the groundwater level is relatively high, and the tomb has been soaked by groundwater for a long time, so the pH value is not large and basically neutral. Therefore, a large number of cultural relics unearthed from this tomb are well preserved. After soaking in underground water, the air content in the wooden room will decrease, which is one of the reasons why the weapons of Gou Jian, the king of Yue, rusted again. Gou Jian, the King of Yue, is famous for his weapons, his master status and his Millennium-old stainless steel. At the same time, the casting and carving of this sword also show the exquisite level of ancient generals and craftsmen.
And this sword, which was cast by ancient craftsmen with backward technology, was put into the modern society with advanced technology. Xu Guangguo, deputy director of Jingzhou Bronze Art Research Institute, Hubei Province, spent 44 years trying to replicate it successfully. You can also see this sword. The preciousness of the sword can be said to be a rare treasure. It is said that the sword of Gou Jian, the King of Yue copied by Xu Guangguo, was collected by the Military Museum and the National Museum of China.
