What is Lati?
Nalati is Xinjiang language, which means the name of a grassland in Yili, Xinjiang. Located in xinyuan county, Xinjiang, the hinterland of Tianshan Mountain and the eastern end of Yili River Valley, with a total planned area of 960 square kilometers. There is also a classic name, called air grassland. It is said that it also has a short story with a slightly different meaning in Mongolia. In Mongolia, it means "the place with the sun". It is said that once the Mongolian army went out and passed through Xinjiang, cold and hungry, and just climbed a mountain and saw a grassland. At this time, the Mongolian army shouted Nalati's name.

Nalati tourist scenic spot is the leading tourist scenic spot in Yili Prefecture. It is located in xinyuan county, Xinjiang, one of the four grasslands in the world, a national eco-tourism demonstration zone and one of the six most beautiful grasslands in China. It was awarded "the most populous grassland in Kazakhstan" by Guinness World Headquarters. Its planned total area is 960 square kilometers, which consists of alpine grassland tourist area, Kazakh folk customs area and tourist living area.

According to legend, during Genghis Khan's Western Expedition, a Mongolian army set out from Turpan and assembled in Yili along the depths of Tianshan Mountain. In midsummer, the mountains are still covered with snow and the cold wind blows hard, which makes the hungry Mongolian soldiers exhausted. Unexpectedly, a mountain turned out to be Ma Pingchuan. On the vast grassland like tapestry, flowers are in full bloom, clear springs are densely covered, and flowing water is gurgling. As if in another world, the soldiers suddenly felt relaxed and happy. Suddenly, the sun is shining, and people can't help shouting: "Nalati (with the sun), Nalati", so a visualized place name was born and has been passed down to this day.

Nalati, changed to "Nalati", is an important mountain pass (now called Nalatidaban) on Tianshan Road in the middle line of the Silk Road, starting from Turpan in the east, passing through Toksun, Aragou, Barentai, Bayinbuluke, Nalati, Gongnaisi and Yili, and reaching Central Asia in the west. "Records of the Western Regions" said: "Nalatdaba, in Uighur, is called the sun shines. The snow-capped mountains are deep and can see the sun, hence the name. " The existing mound tombs scattered along the ancient road show that early nomadic tribes such as Saizhong and Wusun frequently entered and exited this passage. During the period of Junggar and Mongolia in Tang and Song Dynasties, until the Qing Dynasty, many major wars were related to this.

In the 12th year of Yongle (14 14), Chen Cheng, an official minister, went to Kali (now northwest Afghanistan) and took this route. He also met the post-Khan Mahamu of East Chahetai (Biedibali) in the upper reaches of the Ili River. Nalati Mountain, a branch of the southern Tianshan Mountains in the northern Bayinbuluke grassland, and Nalati Town, the easternmost part of xinyuan county, are both named after the mountain pass.
