Tang Bohu was reprimanded by officials for being involved in fraud in the examination room. From then on, he never made progress, and made a living by selling paintings. His life was rough and hard, and he died at the age of 54. Tang Bohu's allusion to Chou-heung comes from later folklore (mainly The Marriage of San Xiao).
