On February 5, a luxury cruise ship carrying more than 3,700 people began a 14-day "maritime quarantine" near Yokohama Port, Japan. Since the quarantine began, the number of novel coronavirus infected people on board has been increasing day by day, which not only tests the coping ability of cruise companies and Japanese government, but also makes the quarantined people on board suffer psychologically.
The passengers of this cruise ship come from 56 countries and regions. In addition, many cruise passengers constantly update their "isolation diaries" on social media, which has attracted special attention around the world.
What about the days of isolation? The reporter of 265438+20th Century Business Herald learned that some passengers may have mental problems. On the one hand, they can't leave the house to avoid cross infection. On the other hand, more and more confirmed cases have formed fear to some extent. Some passengers bluntly felt "in jail" and said, "I don't want to watch my mobile phone anymore, because it's all bad news."
On the evening of February 10, the reporter of 2 1 Century Business Herald received a reply from the public relations department of Princess Cruises China, responding to the measures taken since the quarantine, the measures taken by the Japanese government and the current situation of personnel. The following is the specific reply.
What measures has your company taken so far to deal with this situation?
Cruise: At the request of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the Diamond Princess has been isolated in Yokohama since February 5, and it is expected to be released on February 19. Once a new case is found, the patient will be immediately taken off the boat by the local public health department in Japan and sent to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the guests on board will be isolated in their cabins. The food and drinks selected by the guests on the daily menu will be delivered directly to the cabin. The crew members who have passed the inspection by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will still perform their duties as required. We have equipped the crew with personal protective equipment suitable for all work activities on board. During non-working hours, the crew will be asked to stay in their cabins.
Meeting the medical needs of tourists and crew is our top priority. We sincerely thank the Japanese government for taking the initiative to reinforce the Diamond Princess. The Japanese government is providing additional manpower support for our ships and crew, including 7000 protective masks and a professional medical team consisting of 16 doctors, 12 nurses and medical receptionists.
At the same time, we are also providing corresponding prescription drugs for guests in need. At present, we have received about 2000 drug applications. The application of these drugs will be prioritized according to demand and urgency. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is doing its best to help us collect relevant drugs locally. Once we get the medicine, our team will sort it out and distribute it. We also have a telephone hotline to track the progress of the collection of required prescription drugs.
Princess Cruise will continue to look for the most effective way to protect the physical and mental health of the guests. On February 9, a psychological service hotline was opened for the guests on board. Guests can call the hotline directly in the cabin for help, and professionally trained psychological counselors will provide psychological counseling for these stressed guests. The hotline currently supports English and Japanese.
We also coordinated with the relevant health departments to ensure that every guest in the inner cabin can have a fixed time for outdoor activities. During the isolation period, the guests on board can continue to enjoy free Internet and telephone communication services and keep in touch with family and friends. In addition, in order to improve the on-board experience of guests during the isolation period, our customer service and entertainment team, with the support of shore staff, added 8 live TV channels, and another 60 movies will be added to the TV entertainment system in the cabin within 24 hours. In addition, our team also prepared games, cold knowledge, puzzles and other entertainment activities for guests to entertain in the room. We also provide 38 news newspapers (36 languages) for our guests to read. Guests can also watch fitness videos such as Tai Chi and Yoga.
We will continue to work closely with the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, abide by its agreement rules, protect the safety and health of guests and crew members, and do our best to provide services for guests.
Our ships and medical personnel are equipped with good protective equipment to cope with and control the spread of infectious diseases, including novel coronavirus. We also follow the guidelines of international and local health agencies and take additional preventive measures, including strengthening the health screening of boarding guests and crew, isolating and treating any symptomatic guests and crew, and strictly cleaning and disinfecting the ship.
We will also publicize to the guests and crew how to reduce the risk of infection through frequent hand washing and other good hygiene habits. In addition, tourists and crew members must immediately report any symptoms of the disease to the medical center on board.
