Yantai University is a provincial key comprehensive university that was born at the beginning of reform and opening up. The school was established in July, 1984. Under the cordial care of Wan Li, the former acting prime minister of the State Council, it was aided by Peking University and Tsinghua University. Comrade Hu Yaobang, then General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, wrote the name of the school.

The school is located in Yantai, a national historical and cultural city and the best charming city in China. It faces the Yellow Sea in the east and the Castle Peak in the west. It has a beautiful environment and pleasant climate. It is a coastal university with the shortest seaport and the longest coastline in China.

The school covers an area of 2 100 mu, with a building area of 1.0 1.98 million square meters, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 5 1.2 million yuan. At present, the Science and Education Park of Yantai University has started construction in Yantai Development Zone with a planned area of 1.200 mu and a planned construction area of 670,000 square meters.

Cooperation and communication:

At present, there are three Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate programs with universities in the United States, South Korea and Italy, and there are inter-school student exchange programs with 44 friendly universities in the United States, Britain, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Province Province of China, including the Portsmouth University Foundation Program and the Korean Study Abroad Program.

This university is one of the first universities in China to accept foreign students and invite foreign cultural and educational experts. It is the base of Chinese education in Shandong Province, and the test center for Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), Korean Proficiency Test (TOPIK) and Cambridge Business English Test (BEC).
