What is self-discipline?

Self-discipline is your ability to control your emotions and let yourself act. Imagine how you can make your desire to achieve a set goal independent of anything else. Try to say to yourself, "You are overweight, you should lose 20 Jin." If you can't exercise self-discipline, this goal will never be achieved. But if you can be self-disciplined, you can achieve it. The highest state of self-discipline is that when you make a decision, you will definitely move towards the goal.

Self-discipline is one of many self-development tools. Of course, it is not everything. However, self-discipline can solve very important problems. If there are other ways to solve those problems, self-discipline must be the best way. Self-discipline can make you quit addiction, make you cut as much as you want, and eradicate procrastination, irregularity and ignorance. It is an invincible method within the range of problems that self-discipline can solve. Moreover, when it is teamed up with other tools, such as enthusiasm, goal setting and planning, it is a very powerful teammate.

Establish self-discipline habits

Establishing the habit of self-discipline, for example, can be well explained. Self-discipline is like a muscle. The more time you train it, the stronger you will be. The less time you train it, the weaker you become.

Just like everyone has different degrees of muscle strength, we have different degrees of self-discipline, and everyone has it. If you can hold your breath for a while, you will have self-discipline. But not everyone can develop his self-discipline to the same extent.

Just like exercising muscles is exercising muscles, improving self-discipline also requires constant self-discipline to exercise.

The way to establish self-discipline is like exercising muscles with a dumbbell that keeps gaining weight. Keep adding weight until you are close to your limit. Similarly, the basic way to establish self-discipline is to deal with a challenge that you can handle but is close to your limit. This doesn't mean that you just try a challenge every day and fail again and again, nor does it mean that you stay in the most comfortable range. If you always try to lift a dumbbell that you can't afford, or lift a dumbbell that is light for you, you won't get exercise. You must start with a weight that is within your ability but close to your limit.

This kind of training is to increase the difficulty of the challenge after you successfully complete it. If you keep solving the same challenge, you won't make progress. Similarly, if you stop challenging your life, you won't increase your self-discipline ability.

Just like most people have muscles, they can actually become strong, but they are actually weak, and many people don't have enough self-discipline.

When establishing self-discipline, you should not push yourself too hard. If you want to change your life, set many goals all night and hope that you can stick to it from the next day, you may fail. It's like a person going to the gym for the first time and lifting 300 Jin. You'll just look stupid.

If you can only lift 10 pound, then lift 10 pound. There's no shame in starting with the real you. I recall that when I was in private education a few years ago, the first time I lifted a barbell, I could only lift a pole of 7 kg. My shoulders are weak because I have never exercised. But in a few months, I can lift 60 pounds.

Similarly, if you are in a very irregular state now, you can still make yourself more standardized through a little constraint. But when you are more standardized, your life will become easier and easier. Challenges that were difficult for you at that time will eventually become pediatrics. As you get stronger, the same weight seems to be lighter and lighter.

It's no use comparing yourself with others. You will only find what you are looking for. If you think you are weak, then others look stronger than you; If you think you are strong, then everyone else looks weaker than you. There is no point in making such a comparison. You just need to look at your current position and set a farther goal when you move forward.
